Kogan Emails - Keep Getting Emails despite Unsubscribing

Some time ago I unsubscribed from Kogan emails and I am still receiving emails in all sorts of formats..The latest is below. The email body is EMPTY.

HYDRA Smart Bottle <[email protected]>; on behalf of; HYDRA Smart Bottle <[email protected]>

I have been blocking the sender, but they keep coming.

How do I resolve this?

Thanks

    Report as spam

  • The fact it says it's coming from both Virgin and Kogan, and I'm not aware of any partnership between the two, makes me wonder if that's a spammer spoofing the sender email addresses.

i kept getting Voda sms on friday with some lame joke text to data offer

    anyway to opt out ?

    • "STOP" is the industry-standard opt-out reply keyword, so I'd start with that.

      • It also seems to confirm it's an active number especially if the span is being sent to 100s if numbers.

        • Yes, definitely. I only suggested that to phunky since his spam messages are from Vodafone, who'd be up for massive penalties if they were illegally spamming people and didn't stop once requested.

Same here. I unsubscribed and it reported it may take a couple of days to complete. As a programmer I know this is absolute BS.

Anyway there has been a substantial uptick in the number of spam emails.

I subscribed with a throwaway email address and it wouldn't bother me as I would throw it away except although saying they have sent my sim card it has not arrived a week later.

Should have known better than to trust Kogan.

    • Yes! After I unsubscribed, same experience. Spam got worse. Seriously would love to report this, but not sure how I can prove they are responsible.

      • my spam is from them so its easy to prove.

I have also given them a unique email address so if I get spam on that address then it can only come from them selling or somehow revealing the email address.

Two more spams since I posted the above comment.

  • I finally got Kogan to stop sending emails. I then had a reason to return to kogan and sign back in.

They took that as permission to start spamming me again I have received at least 3 since 11pm last night when I signed in.

I keep reporting it to ACMA and they keep doing nothing

    • How did you manage to get them to stop?

        No Worse than that even!

After continuing to receive spam emails and continuing to complain I got this little gem from them

        Thanks for your reply.

I know where you're coming from, however, it's normal for any ongoing services to provide updates periodically, particularly as they relate to upcoming recharges or renewals (as in the email you sent as an example).

These are fully automated and tied to your purchasing behaviour, quite separate our normal mailing lists.

If these messages are a nuisance, I would recommend setting up a filter to prevent them from reaching your inbox. Most email providers make this a simple process, though I'm unsure which provider your *******@*********** account is set up with.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

        Kindest regards,

The email spam he was referring to as "upcoming charges and renewals" was an upsell to add international locations to my plan

This is the subject line from the email he is referring to..

Add International Calls to Your Plan from $5 for 30 Days!

        That is clearly upsell spam

I have gone the extra step to write to ACMA to complain about this I am not expecting much as I havent heard of ACMA fining anyone for spam in a long time. They are there for show not for go.

That's ridiculous. I still haven't managed to stop them completely.

I'm thinking of creating a bogus email and ask them to update my email and see if that works.

          • @D6C1: Why not employ the old OzB favourite: [email protected]?
            Eg, D6C1+KoganStuff@gmail.com

Have Gmail automatically divert them to a folder of your choosing. Do with that what you like — evidence of harassment or purge it.
At least it won't hit your main inbox!
