Anyone know much about exercise bikes?

Hi guys,

Just in the market for a decent exercise bike to shed the 'holiday weight'. I was thinking around 200+ or so, something that's durable with a heart monitor or something… and anyway I came across this on Lasoo.

Inspiration Pursuit Exercise Bike from BigW http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/stationary-bicycles/inspiratio…

Anyone know if this is a good bike or not? If not, does anyone know of a good place to quality bikes? (other than eBay)

Cheers if anyone knows :)

  • hi

maybe have a look at a cross trainer - an idea is to try bike and cross trainer out for a few minutes.

  • Check out Target, by that I mean, go down to your local store. Some of them have been throwing away exercise bikes/treadmills! I mean, really really good clearance prices.

Personally though? If you can help it, get a recumbent exercise bike. It's so damn comfortable you can use it for hours

  • Thanks so much for both your inputs! I'll be sure to check them out on Friday when I get some spare time. :)

  • And wow recumbent bikes look really comfortable! Great tip there, thanks

  • Do you have a bike already? A better option may be to buy a wind trainer, which you clip your bike onto and it basically converts it into an exercise bike.

Here is an example (you can get them cheaper than this though, starting at around $70)

Cheap exercise bikes are horrible things to pedal

    • They burn through tyres though…

    • I do have a bike but I think it's a little too big to put into my bedroom :(

  • what is wrong with the footpath? a brisk walk with an mp3 player is just as good. chances are your exercise equipment will just end up in the closet gather dust after you become bored of it in a months time.

if you do want to go exercise equipment, i think a cross-trainer is better than an exercise bike because it works your upper body as well as well as burning calories more quickly.

    • The majority of excercise bikes just end up on eBay or out on the footpath for the local council rubbish cleanup. So, you can get one from there… use it for a week until you also get annoyed or bored, then recycle in the same way.

  • I know that you will get yelled at if you take them on the road
