Food steamer help?

Hi guys,
Wondering if anybody's had any good experiences with food steamers and can recommend one at an "OzBargain" price? :)

The Morphy Richards one seems very popular online (around $300), but appliances online seems to say that it's no longer available and I don't know heaps about steamers in the first place.

Thanks in advance!

Amelyn

  • I've had a Sunbeam VitaSteam for about 10 years now, it gets used at least 2-3 times per week, it's got good capacity, flexibility, it's really convenient to use & clean, and it just keeps powering on! :)

Mine's the old plain white base model, you can get fancy ones now that are either transparent base, windowed, or electronically controlled. A couple of friends bought the newer windowed models when they saw mine, and have nothing but good things to say about theirs too! ;)

  • What's the practical advantage over using a normal saucepan and some boiling water?

I think my wok isn't big enough to steam fish for two….?

Also, a multi-level steamer allows you to do a few more dishes all at once, so it's done quick and easy.

These things are faster, larger and actually use less power; mainly due to the size/design of the actual heating element & water delivery to it, simple yet incredibly effective! ;)
