Australians Are The Most Price Gouged in The World

But not the fault of retailers most of the Time the insane costs of Rent and buying retail properties and the Middlemen and today lot of middlemen are the franchise companies, a major example is Jerry Harvey of Harvey Norman a Franchiser, A Landlord, a middleman.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Then a lot of online retailers work on very High-Profit margins Australian and the extremely Large Ones operating out of China. Plus with online Shopping from China, the Multi-National Freight carriers have got their claws in. when I started buying directly from China nearly 2 decades ago the freight companies were Chinese and air freight was reasonable and so was postage.

Today the only way to get good deals is Have a close Chinese friend in Australia who can help you with only shopping from the Chinese Language only online sellers. Then have family friends in your city that the Will to shop ahead example Christmas and Birthday Shopping many months ahead and same with electrical Appliances, tools. items for the car, the prices from these Chinese languages retailers is often 50 to 75% cheaper than the All language super sites. But there is one last ingredient you need is a Forwarding Agent where all your items are sent to one Address and then when all have arrived are packed and sent by ship. But the one I used now just has two Australian companies as customers. The best example of this I can give you is a Table Saw I wanted and it's not sold in WA just Qld, NSW, VIC and the Price close to $2800 without any add-ons such as a sliding table. Then the freight to WA was over $300 and an extra $100 if I did not have a Forklift or the means of lifting off a truck. I kept searching for it online and found a link on a web site and it turned out to be the Factory in China and I noticed minimum order ONE yes 1 I contacted the manufacturer and the Price was $1700 plus $100shipping & Insurance. The $100 shipping is the important part as it comes in a large Carton with a Shipping container base and the weight over 80kg. You can do the same with the USA and there are plenty of forwarding agents that give you a USA address such as this one https://www.myus.com/ and there are a lot more.

      • LOL. Good find

When comparing the prices of products between here and China you need to make sure you're comparing genuine products. Twice I've seen people here burned by direct importing products. One was stainless steel wire from China. Much cheaper, woohoo! All the wire rusted. The other was sports equipment. It was clearly all counterfeit.

The cost of rent and land is a HUGE problem for prices in Australia. The housing market bubble affects many areas of the market negatively,

It is like no resident has ever seen a map of the country.

Never ceases to amaze me that we live in one of the biggest countries on the planet, yet the vast majority of us live like Singaporeans paying millions of dollars for a few square meters because land is somehow limited. lol

      • Well, the vast majority of australia is pretty much a terrible place to live, either for water supply, farmland, construction foundation, supply lines, or weather.

It's still ridiculous, we should be spread out all along the south-eastern coast.

Whats the point of this post?
RonaldR (OP) is obviously unhappy with the world.
    Total waste of time.

Well with the reference to "Jerry Harvey" maybe they were thinking "Seinfeld" and, at best, this is a post about nothing.

    • To be fair anyone happy with the world right now either has their head buried in the sand or has no idea what is going on outside their own bubble.

Our prices are high but we also have a large middle class and no rampant poverty. We pay for that luxury so that other people can have the same.

Looks like just a long way to advertise myus.

    • That is exactly what I thought! I even checked when the OP joined, surprised it was years ago and had 39 other comments.. They're playing the long game for sure!

They even mentioned the table saw in a post from 2 years ago. Very savvy. I bet the OP sells table saws as well!

      • Haha it was joke obviously. A lengthy post followed by a short link. OP just seems to forget about out geographical location, that being we are in the middle of bumf**K nowhere.

        • as others have pointed out, geographical is not the only reason.
It's a combination of other factors such as volume, lack of competition, high labour cost, high rent, consumer law, etc.

Op needs to learn to structure their arguments better

At the moment it just reads like a jumbled mess

    • a lot like our government policies then…

    • Its totally meaningless mumbo jumbo.
      Has no purpose realy

  • Soooo this is about a table saw ?

    • more about market protections, border tax, and general price gouging I reckon.

      • I think OP has issues with the world at large and just venting his frustrations here.

        • reckon market protections, border tax, and general price gouging are issues in the world at large

    • This is about failing to see a business opportunity and become a middle-man for China imports. OP is not the only one who wants to see a table-saw bargain.

Why create business from opportunity when you can create forum comments.

  • Only help i can offer is this

  • I have family in the US, the result being I can get stuff shipped here pretty much for free. 90% of the time by the time you factor in currency conversion the price difference on computer hardware is so minimal I just buy local.

Obviously not the same for all categories, however it's not universally true that we get price gouged.

  • the classic example is business software some of which is so astronomically priced here it's actually cheaper to fly to the states and purchase it there than to buy in australia

  • Want to complain about price gouging but doesn't compare apples to apples. Australia has one of the highest wages in the world and it affects the cost of products. Compare against countries like Australia where there are minimum wages with similar earning power.

  • ……. You are not forced to live here….

    • that is no longer true really because peoples ability to move has been altered post trump.

      • whats trump?

        • he's a famous liar

  • Australians Are The Most Price Gouged in The World

I think the people of Venezuala would disagree with you.

    • unofficial sanctions

  • I feel like I was watching a movie and there was a blackout in the cinema… not sure when/whether the power will be restored!

  • Australia has high inflation because of minimum wages and an low unemployment rate.

For example average wage in mainland China is
$~15,500 aud while in Australia it is $~86,000 aud.

    Or

In similar thread someone compared Australia to Spain which has an unemployed rate of 14.45% compared to 5.5%.

Australia is also separated from the rest of world therefore shipping to Australia is considerably more expensive.

    Hence, the higher prices.

    • your economics is infantile - you must be connected to government in some way…

      • That was supposed to be a simplistic summary.

Not everyone is interested in discussing the target rate (2%-3%) of the Reserved Bank of Australia by monetary policy or how the government can influence this rate through fiscal policy.

The post simply explained the unemployment and inflation trade-off in that when people have no jobs demand decreases and so do prices.

In an economy with a minimum wage (price floor) production costs increase equating to higher prices.

Regardless, the current government is not even interested in economics considering their neoclassical stance.

        Note:
        Apologies for any mistakes.

I am currently lacking my full intellectual capacity.

        • your right in making plain your're not well because even though simplistically there's a trade off, the oz government deliberately pursues policies to increase prices through intensely regressive taxation.

As a consequence of these policies, our government reduces taxation on business's, and the very well paid, whilst reducing education and health expenditure, arguing increased investment costs which they deliberately created.

Its a FAR right ideological approach which is ruining Australia.

  • This is like the post about some guy that found his wife was having an affair but was actually promoting some spy ware on phone and spy camera.

Went into detail how he was tracking her using the ware, and how he was following her and recoding her movements using the camera.. all the whole posting amazing HD pictures of him tailing her.
