Scoopon-good experience?

I have good experience with Scoopon.

Got six scoopons on this offer for $69 for the ULTIMATE Full Day Adventure Pack which by Great Sights! Includes Australian Reptile park, Dolphin watch,4WD and Sandboarding, entries and activities INCLUDED! Normally $166!
http://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/1030/just-69-for-the-ultimat…

It actually ran by Grayline, same as http://www.grayline.com.au/australia-sightseeing/sydney-day-…

Found it excellent value,no different from people paying full price, easy to book, easy to change the day.

My experience is tours are alright, especially by Great Sights(in my experience), but food and service I would avoid.

Oh! No, I have nothing to do with all those companies-> Scoopon, Great Sights or Grayline. Just want to share some positive experience!

    what?! a non-scoopon hater!? GTFO!!

just kidding. i havent had any problems with scoopon either, but i also only buy food type deals and not service type deals (yes food is technically a service but you know what i mean). i also make it a point to redeem my coupons as soon as i can after purchasing which i attribute to my success :)

  • I've had two…. (1 food, 1 product)… no dramas with either

    • Wait until there is a drama

      • I shall then report it in the numerous 'I hate scoopon' threads

At present, I am reporting in the 'scoopon, good experience?' thread, as that seems more appropriate

  • +1

I've bought two as well, and had no problems- but only purchased items where I had previous experience with the businesses involved. The problem with Scoopon is that they don't care if there is any issue after you've paid them. Clearly they ignore complaints and emails, so if you have any problem with the purchase or the business; they don't care (unless you make it public here).

I guess the key with Scoopon is to make sure that the business you are buying the service for, is decent.

  • no dramas here

  • +1

We recently went on the hot air balloon ride in the Avon Valley (WA) and had no dramas. They only gave us one CD of photos, but I didn;t ask for another and haven't even bothered to look at the one they did give me.

The pilot did make a point of telling me not to tell others of the price (about $95 or $98) that I had paid.

The experience was boring, but that is just because I'm a bit spoiled, not because of Scoopon or anything the company did wrong.

  • Scoopon is a lousy deals coupon.

It's when you run into problems redeeming the deal from a dodgy business that you'll see bad customer service.

For example if you can't make a booking, and ask them for a refund, They'll just say we can't be responsible for redemption process. If that's the case what the hell are providing ???

There's plenty of other good deals providers in australia :

    www.stardeals.com.au
    www.cudo.com.au
    www.spreets.com.au
    www.ouffer.com
    www.jumpononit.com.au

    to name just a few

Of course if you find a great deal you should still buy scoopon, just try to redeem it ASAP or take a chance.

    • +1

Agreed. Or only buy vouchers for businesses that you know are reputable and where an astronomical number of vouchers have not been sold.

Avoid - Housecleaning, car maintenance, home maintenance services, ultra cheap multi-hour pamper packages (unless you can book on day 1).

Ones that I don't really remember complaints about: photo products, fast food (no booking needed), activities like paint ball/laser tag/rock climbing/tours/entries to places.

I like using companies that don't sell as many vouchers on average.

  • i have just had a really bad experience using scoopon. i have purchased deals from scoopon, spreets, ouffer, jump on it etc and never had a problem until this month. the deal was for a massage, facial and manicure. the salon was dirty, the service didnt match the description and they didnt adhere to health guidelines- i was offered a dirty towel for my hands as they had no clean ones in stock, no sterilisation of items between customers. so i asked scoopon to refund my money following my "experience" and still havent heard back. i thought they are supposed to check out these companies before they facilitate these services to the public? anyway, ive reported to dept of health and dept of fair trading. i usually love these cheap deals and its a shame about this one crap experience. wont go scoopon again!

    • Or maybe just if they happen to get a reputable company signed up. I always check the companies out before I buy. The ones that freak me out are the beauty/massage packages that are in a private residence. Yuck.

Good on you for reporting them to the health dept. IN WA, there are also licensing agencies You should see if there is in your state.

Care to tell us the name of the company??? It would help others decid whether o actually use their scoopon.

  • +1

it was the sydney institute of hair and beauty- it was advertised on ozbargain and although i researched the company I couldnt find a bad review and it receives funding from dept of education so i figured it must be legit. just received an email from the local council stating that a health investigation is commencing following my complaint. this company had only 2 actual students, the others were workers from their other nail shop and one was the daughter of the owner, not an actual trained student or qualified employee. i completed a tafe cert in nail tech and figured that this cheap deal was in line with the cheap services we conducted at the tafe salons to give us students experience. lesson learnt, thats for sure. this has also been reported to dept of fair trading nsw. scoopon should not be able to put an individuals health at risk by allowing this deal to be facilitated. this is not just a case of a bad experience, this is a serious matter where we could contract hep c and other infections due to their lack of health controls. and the fact that scoopon have not responded indicates that they dont take us customers health seriously, just not good enough.

  • +1

Scoopon - Any response to this, especially in light of how Cudo seems to watch out for their buyer customers? (See that article about Generation C)

Scoopon should just refund everyone's money who bought that deal. I remember seeing it and assuming it was a TAFE thingy, wishing that they would drum a similar deal up in my city.

Geogia13, you really deserve a medal or commendation or something for bringing it to the attention of the various authorities. It took time and energy to do that. Thanks.

  • I went to Hayashi in Midland Saturday night. They had no problem taking my Scoopon booking. The place was full. We were treated no differently at all. I might buy another Hayashi Midland scoopon, but wouldn't drive way to Midland special for it. I would use it in conjunction with a trip to the airport. It is a long drive.

  • Lol vote often when was Ur flight had mine on the 29th

Had a great time . Was treated no different , actually even better as the CD was free !

I've had positive experiences with scoopon so far . Have used 3 restaurant ones , ballooning and the flower deal.

Great to hear that hayashi was great !! Can't wait to book mine :)

Also have u used the hippo creek voucher by any chance

  • Hey Balls,

We went about 10 - 12 days ago.

The negative experiences I have had so far have all been with beauty services. Trouble booking in and sub standard service.

I have a full day tomorrow with a place called Sparadise and I'm getting a bit edgy. Neither location was answering and they used to have machines telling you if you are a voucher holder to send an email. No answer and no machines. Mondays these places are often closed, but no answering machine, when there used to be one? I have to be clear out there to Burswood tomorrow by 930, so I won't get an answer too much before then. There are three vouchers involved there and they are all with deals.com.au.

  • +2

Just to update, I got an email yest evening saying that Scoopon are refunding my voucher. Great outcome, but wat about the other 1000 peeps who also purchased this deal? There are still health issues with this place and for the sake of the others who may utilise their voucher, will follow thru with my health complaint to make sure they dont get away with their dodgy salon practices.

    • I wonder how they justify the refund in that instance, vs others. Granted yours is extreme.

Great outcome. They should refund everyone. Go girl!

  • +2

I think for the following reasons:
    1. The salon didnt meet NSW Health standards and I have consequently reported it to Rockdale Council for investigation
    2. The item did not match the description (treatments did not go for the time allocated in the deal) and I reminded Scoopon of the new consumer legislation which outlines consumer rights and referred my complaint to Dept of Fair Trading
    3. There were so many peeps who purchased this deal it was prob in their best interest to try n settle it quietly and quickly
    4. I also threatened that if it went to Tribunal which I was happy for it to go to, then I would also claim out of pocket costs including the salon treatments and massage therapy I had to seek out after this deals treatment due to their really bad procedures which caused a bacteria breakout on my face, strained muscles from the really really bad unsupervised student massage and her refusal to stop pushing so damn hard, nail medication for a fungal infection. Scoopon knew I would be compensated if it went that far so it was better for them just to pay the deal out than end up out of pocket.

I have read these forums and realise that there are many others in the same and worse situations than me and I feel lucky that Ive been so fortunate. Instead of complaining on these forums, these peeps should just research their rights and not back down. it works wonders! thanks voteoften for the kind words

Gross Georgina, Unfortunately Scoopon won't refund unless they are contact for instance the chimney closed down prior to them selling vouchers and I had to fight to get my money back.

  • +1

so i guess i really was one of the lucky ones!

  • +2

I'm not one of the unlucky ones. I bought a $49 deal at Mocean restaurant bondi. The provider refused to honour the deal and now scoopon won't provide a refund because the terms and conditions say "subject to availability". This is rubbish. My case ID with scoopon was SAQ-955614. Let me know if anyone knows a lawyer willing to take on a class action. I'm sure we would get a $100k worth of unsatifified purchasers together

  • +2

check out the new consumer legislation which is available through the dept of fair trading nsw site. i think you will find that in this case you are entitled to a refund because the scoopon company sold a scoopon on behalf of the company which had no intention of honouring that deal. irrespective of the t & c's, you purchased a product/service (entered into a "consumer contract")and if you, as the buyer, are attempting to validate it within the time frame listed and they can not give you a good reason not to validate the deal, then you are entitled to a refund. personally i would report this to dept of fair trading nsw and see how you go. I would also let scoopon know that you have referred it to dept of fair trading, as it is fraudulent to sell a product or service which you have no intention of honouring. furthermore, if scoopon respond that it is out of their hands, this is not accurate. they sold the offer on behalf of their client and under consumer law, scoopon is the seller, not mocean restaurant. i hate these companies such as scoopon who try and manipulate consumers rights! keep us posted!

    • Hi georgia13,

We had been in contact with our deal partner, Mocean, in the lead up to the expiration of the Scoopon and can assure you that they did everything possible to honour the Scoopon vouchers during the validity period.
Some Scoopon holders were able to be placed on a cancellation list, and were able to secure a booking after a general public booking had been cancelled.

However, due to a massive influx of booking requests coming at the end of the validity period, the restaurant was fully booked for the remaining two weeks of the voucher. This was for general public customers, as well as Scoopon holders.

If there is a potential issue that has arisen with a Scoopon, in not being able to redeem the voucher - we kindly ask that our members contact us as soon as the concern arises. Unfortunately, if we do not know of the issue before the Scoopon has expired, the options of resolution are somewhat limited.

If you have are experiencing difficulty in redeeming your voucher, we kindly ask that you send an email to [email protected]

      Kind Regards,
      Team Scoopon.

      • +2

In other words, the business COULDN'T service the voucher. Refund time.

      • +3

BS. Send me my F-ing refund. My ticket ID is SAQ-955614

  • +2

Thanks Georgia. I've referred it to fair trading as you suggested. I spent a very long time trying to track down a phone number for scoopon/catchofday but they have done an extremely good job of keeping that information off the web

  • +2

i think the issue here seems to be that this restaurant would prefer to have full paying customers rather than scoopon customers. which is fine except that there are still consumers who have purchased the deal and when attempting to redeem it before the expiry date, have been shafted. the acceptable and ethical course of action would be to offer these people a booking at the first available time, whether this is after the expiration or not. The fact is, the people who called to make bookings didnt wait til the day of the expiration, they called two weeks or more before the deal ended. Unless this is a prestigious restaurant, which Mocean is not, it is extremely unlikely that they are completely booked out in excess of two weeks in advance. Thankyou for your response Scoopon, however if in your own words, you were aware that Mocean "would not be able to accomodate these Scoopon requests", you should have offered a refund at that point to all of those customers attempting to make bookings. I agree that upon the t & c's, any scoopon purchaser who did not attempt to make a booking and then chose to seek out a refund AFTER the expiration date should not be entitled to a refund. However through your own admission above, you knowingly allowed scoopon customers to be left out of pocket with no reasonable explanation. Furthermore, if you continue to ask us customers to contact you when you make excuses for disregarding a consumer's rights, you should at least make sure that you answer the emails in a timely manner to avoid this public forum and the scrutiny that your company clearly wants to avoid.

    • +1

      well said georgia13.

  • Okay i feel incredibly incredibly stupid
i bought 5 of the deals that Georgia mentioned..

I mean come on 29 bucks for a facial / massage and err nail polish thing (dont really want it)

    Now what do i do?
I've got acne prone skin - severe acne prone skin so i don't really want to get a facial from them.
Also the massage beds / towels could be really dirty and break me out.

Should i ask for a refund for the 5 coupons?

    • Yes. And you should dispute your credit card immediately.

    • If you have already used your scoopons I wish you luck. I would not recommend this service to anyone with acne prone skin on the basis of my own experiences with this salon. My tips, should you not ask for a refund, is to ensure that they use sterilised equipment when performing the manicure- I witnessed them using skin penetrating tools on at least 3 clients without cleaning or sterilising the equipment. This increases risks of Hep C and other infections. Make sure that you have a qualified staff member or student performing the treatments- at one point I had a family member performing a nail treatment and she was not forth-coming about her lack of qualifications or credentials, make sure the towels are clean and not reused, speak up if the massage is not comfortable or you could end up seeing a professional massage therapist and be more out of pocket like I was. My advice would also be to ask to see the products that they use for the facial- we were told it was dermatologica but the smell of these products was not like any dermatologica products I have used when receiving a facial in other salons. Given that this salon has been reported to local council and Scoopon are aware of the Salon's health and safety issues, hopefully this helps with obtaining a refund, should you seek one. If I can do anything else to help pls let me know.

      • GEORGIA! I had the same issue with them!

        Plus the following:
        - The woman watched me whilst I stripped for the massage
        - The bathroom had no sink to wash my hands and was infested with cockroaches
        - The massage went for 1/2 the time (not one hour)
        - I have a rash on my neck now

I have contacted scoopon and they have said "i am sorry but we cannot refund your purchase since you have redeemed your scoopon already"

I wrote back a reply in which I stated that scoopon are asking me to "forsee" that I was going to have a bad experience!

        • +1

"i am sorry but we cannot refund your purchase since you have redeemed your scoopon already"

I am sitting here literally stunned. Although I probably shouldn't be given the volume of complaints Scoopon has here vs the other providers.

          It sounds like a nightmare!

  • I have bought three deals from scoopon.

One I am using for laser and so far it was worth it.
one had a few things like massage, facial, pedi and mani…It was for my mum and supposed to be for an hour (the massage) but the ladies did the whole thing in 1:10 from the time my mum stepped in. Which is ridiculous. I also received a mail saying the store is currently closed in one suburb and we need to use another one. So the remaining few treatments will be a pain in the ass to book.
And yday I booked another laser treatment. Fingers crossed they are decent.

Thing was for the first one I had read reviews. For others I couldn't find any but some deals seem worth it.

Keep up the good fight though guys,

    • Other group buying comapnies have refunded when one of the locations changed. Then again, other group buying companies divulge their phone number. I was shocked to see the Living Social number printed on the voucher I received and it was there in case you had problems!

      • Fancy that! Actually having a number to call customer service. Who would've thought?

        • But I guess the thing is I have already used some of the services on the first day.Should I bother complaining now?

Also a TIP for everyone. Don't hate me for this but I made the booking in advance before the day we were allowed to book, cause it was my mother's day treat to my mum and I wanted her to get it on the day this was legible before she went on her holiday. Maybe you guys should try this as well. Get in asap and make booking well in advance. When my mum went apparently the phones were going crazy. (she was the first customer in the new shop's first day)

Cause for the first scoopon I bought. I called like mad on the day it opened. Couldn't get through until two hours later. But since I was booking months in advance it wasn't an issue.

        • An innovation!

    • Hi lshadeon,

Can you please advise if you have contacted Scoopon customer service via [email protected] to bring this matter to our attention?

If a location has closed, we need to investigate any potential issues so that we can help bring about a suitable resolution.

If you have contact us, can you please advise your ticket ID, so we can have the support team investigate the matter further?

      Kind Regards,
      Team Scoopon.

      • Hey Scoopon,

Only one location closed and Scoopon is the one that emailed me about it. So they know.
It is the one for Evoque Plus. The other location was mentioned at the start in the deal. But I was hoping to get into the one that was closed. It is closer to me. The other one is closer to my mum.

EDIT: Went back to voucher and checked. So there were three locations 1) Oakleigh 2) Caroline Springs 3) Ringwood

My mum went to Oakleigh one. I wanted to go to Caroline Springs…thats the one that was closed. And Ringwood is opening Today for the first time and is too far.

How do you propose we resolve this Scoopon team?

        • No response from Scoopon.

        • Hi lshadeon,

          Thanks for your post.

We are unable to advise the exact date of when the Caroline Springs or Ringwood location will be available - which we did state in the email that was sent out to all members that purchased this deal, after we became aware of the issue.

If you purchased your Scoopon to be redeemed at one of the locations that is not currently available, we are very happy to assist you with a refund on your unused Scoopon.
We just need you to email us at [email protected] so that our support team can help you out.

          Kind Regards,
          Team Scoopon.

    • I've also used the one for evoque plus, though I chose to have my treatments separately. Haven't had the mani or pedi yet…but the massage only went for about 45 min (if that) and she kept talking throughout and was also trying to sell me products. Not very relaxing! But I don't want to complain as I still have to go back for 2 manis, 2 pedis and a facial. Hopefully they will be better.

  • Hey actually here is a good story. I bought one that was for laser hair removal but it sold 1600 and expires in Nov.
They are supposed to close on weekends and the booking should be made from tomorrow. I called today just to check if I can get in on Wed.
    1) They were already booked till 22nd June cause of all the pre-actual date to make bookings
    2) They don't open on Weekends.

To compensate for all these extra sales and the November expiry the lady reckons we just need to get in once before November and they won't expire our vouchers. And they may start opening on weekends for Scoopon customers.
That being said Scoopon needs to be the one setting limits in the first place. And we need to start buying from places like jigocity they have some really good deals but not as much exposure and sales.

    • yea, i like the smaller website, you know they wont book out before expiry cause they dont sell too many in the first place.

  • Actually Scoopon here is the companies name: Bioscor for the one I just mentioned above with the over selling and less time till expiry.
Can you make sure they adhere to their new verbal terms where they say you only need to go in once before november.
Just read what happened to others where T&Cs weren't written.

    • Hi lshadeon,

We'll make sure that we pass this information on to our Sales Team and Compliance Officer to follow up.

      Kind Regards,
      Team Scoopon.

  • hi guys I know I havent been on this page for a while, but just to update, I just received a cheque today. Yes it has taken that long to get my refund. Countless hours emailing backwards and forwards to Scoopon, Dept of Fair Trading and Rockdale Council. Ridiculous! At one point Scoopon even expected me to email my visa details to them via hotmail and when I refused, decided that they would send me a cheque. My lesson is certainly learnt and from now on I will be careful with the businesses I purchase deals with. Good luck to everyone who has grievances

    • Glad to hear of your refund. Sorry to hear how much trouble you had to go through to get it. Thanks for the update.

    • +1

i bought 5 of these vouchers

i emailed scoopon regarding what u've mentioned and they said they have received a large number of positive feedback regarding this promotion.

I can't imagine anyone emailing scoopon saying " OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH IT WAS THE BEST EVER!"

    • Hey georgia13, sorry to bring this up but I wanted to get some advice on how you got your refund. I have 3 of these vouchers and I refuse to go there from your reviews and several others I've read online! I emailed them and they wrote that they couldn't give a refund because I changed my mind. Do I have to go there to get a bad experience before they can refund me?! Would appreciate your time.
      Thanks.

  • i never had any bad experience with scoopon!

  • Used a friend's scoopon at Seaview restaurant in South Freo WA. Such great and friendly service that for the first time in a few years I have felt compelled to leave a tip. Some of the food items were spectacular, some items were average. The items were so cheap, it was difficult to use the whole $100. The serves were very big. Massive hunks of salmon - about 350 - 400g. About 6 tables at any given time - all Scoopon.

"1 Scoopons (sic) sold and rising fast" and it's already almost "tipped" with several days to go!

    So it makes you wonder:

    (i) How many Scoopons are available altogether?
(ii) How did Scoopon come up with "rising fast" with a single data point?

Group buying sites can sound like greasy salesmen when the sites' designs don't consider all the scenarios.

I love how a lot of the companies selling services shamelessly give a "regular price" that's 20% to 200% more than what's listed on their website. Or a particular diving company that goes so far as creating a new website and business name to substantiate the more expensive regular prices?!

    • +1

hey…. thanks for joining up today to post twice, badmouthing the same company on posts that are months old.

Hope nobody thinks that is suspicious…..

      • No worries. Sorry if it sounded like directed badmouthing of Scoopon as I didn't intend that specifically. Reading back I can see how what I wrote does sound indeed defamatory - but the badmouthing is intended as cautionary advice for all group buying sites and/or sites in general that practice marketing deception. (I belong to an independent authority that reports deceptive marketing and product labelling).

I literally just formed my first imageshack.us and OzBargain user accounts (using a disposable e-mail account no less) just to post a link to this interesting scenario I discovered. To be honest I'll probably never login to OzBargain again as I don't generally have anything useful to add (although I've seen my share of ultracheap hard drives and other too-good-to-be-true deals that others predicted). I didn't have the patience to wait the 24 hours OzBargain dictates to new users to post my screenshot so just found a few random topics with a generalised Scoopon theme. (Again, might look "suspicious" but, coming from a marketing-related background myself, this is how I would destroy a reputation more effectively had I wanted to: Type the words Scoopon and Ozbargain into Google and post your badmouthing in the top forum hits - "dodgy shopping website Scoopon" or "not happy with scoopon", come up top. When you put in your badmouthing, don't forget to include the words s-c-4-m or r-i-p-0-f-f (I have shielded the words partially to give Scoopon a chance).

I admit, sometimes in the interests of "saving the world" I'll make 3 or more accounts to answer questions on Yahoo and a bunch of other tech forums (yes, it's me…dumdadadahh…flies away). I'm always amazed that the top hits on Google often don't answer the question and I have to trawl through locked forums to get the answer or solve it myself.

I am currently working on establishing a website that clearly lambasts companies using deceptive marketing practices that take advantage of the naive.

        • +1

Can't believe you just admitted to defamtion. Disposable a/c or not.
