What Happened to Cheap Yeelights?

Hello,

I recall about a year or two ago, Yeelights were very commonly posted on Ozb for about ~$14.

They were smart lights, RGB.

How come they're no longer available for that price?

Did I miss something?

    Xiaomi's global popularity has caused them to raise wholesale prices and more strictly enforce their price regulations for resellers. Another reason is some of our favourite Chinese sellers have ditched their loss leading strategies and no longer sell at or below cost.

        Always best to look at Chinese products in their US price as that won't fluctuate, however you are right. The exchange rate is terrible.

      Is there any expectation in the near future for prices to come back down?

      Am I able to ask you for a recommendation on a smart RGB light for my room (With Google home compatibility) - best bang for buck.

      I guess my options are Lifx/Yeelights/Kmart Mirabella (Philips Hue is too expensive and requires a hub)

        My experience with smart lights is limited to Yeelight and Philips Hue and that's what I'd normally recommend. Otherwise when LIFX go on sale.

      Is this also why we don't see Xiaomi Mi Home sensors go on sale much anymore, too?

        Pretty much. Most of it stemmed from the popularity of the Xiaomi Xiaofang cameras years ago. With so many international users connecting to their servers and the increased costs associated with streaming camera footage, Xiaomi pulled the plug with new firmware and increased their prices.

        Other reason being the turf war LITB had against GB by trying to match everything, but now LITB has all but disappeared. From what I've heard there was a staff lay off and all their good marketing reps are gone.
