Wish they'd do this again for the qantas card……

    • Also hanging for the Qantas American Express Ultimate Card!

    • They did it this time last year for qantas… I hope the interchange changes haven't made them stop offering the 100K QFF deal…

  • +1

what can you get for 100k MR points? eg. X QFF points or Y Asiamiles points?

    • For this card transfers are 4MR : 3 points to most frequent flyer programs.

From mid April 2015 it will be 2MR : 1 point though.

      • +3

        2015 or 2019?

  • How does the booking flights work? Got to go trough them? If so, do they price match?

    • You can do it all online through American Express Travel.
Don't think they price match though.

Also, I believe that most LCC are not part of the American Express Travel search engine, so keep that in mind.

Anybody that wants to get this card - I would recommend getting it ASAP or not at all.
There is an upcoming devaluation in mid April on all redemptions (Gift cards, transfers to loyalty programs etc)

If you apply now and spend straight away, there is probably a decent chance of you getting the bonus points before the devaluation kicks in. I would then transfer it all out to your desired program straight away.

    • Any recommendation on where to transfer points to for flights?

      • I used to transfer to to SPG (Starwood) before the devaluation.
Now I don't really have a preferred place.
Velocity sometimes has 15% bonus points when you transfer which makes it nice.

    • Would it be valid to transfer it right away to an FF of choice before April, that way getting a better conversion and use the FF points after April?

Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for this introductory bonus offer. Previous and existing bank-issued American Express companion cardholders are eligible for this offer

    Thats a shame :(

I previously had an Amex corporate card which I got at work, does this mean I am ineligible as well?

    • +1

From experience I've never had an issue with these offers while also concurrently holding a AMEX Corporate Card for 10+ years. So I'm guessing not.

    • +1

No, you are eligible. Corporate cards and bank linked Amex card are not included in the waiting period for direct Amex cards. I have a Corporate Amex and always got a bonus. My 18 months waiting ended on Monday. I wish this deal was direct with Amex cause I could get a referral bonus since my Mrs also has this card.

  • What value of gift cards does this translate to? Eg: for woolworths.

    • about $500 in gift cards

      • Thanks. I'll have to pass on this offer, not attractive to me.

Don't forget devaluation starts in April

    • What devaluation?

    • -1

Do note if you are unsure what to do with the point if you are going to use it to convert to Airlines points, please don't panic as you can convert to SPG/Marriott points which are not changing from 15 April. Then convert to the Airlines of your choice. For 100k Amex Points = 75k Kris/Asia Miles. With SPG/Marriott conversion it is 76.666k Kris/Asia Miles so you get extra 1666 Airline points

      • Thats because SPG and Marriott were devalued by over half last year

        https://www.pointhacks.com.au/spg-marriott-ritz-carlton-merg…

That is a devaluation of more than half for this particular partner. Note that it applies to all variants of Membership Rewards points, including Gateway, Ascent, Ascent Premium and David Jones.

The devaluation of the American Express Membership Rewards program from mid-April 2019 exacerbates the reduction in value from transferring your American Express points to Marriott Rewards and SPG.

      • +1

Conversion to SPG is now 3:2 so 100k Amex points only gets you 22k FF points if you transfer this way

  • Can you transfer MR to Qantas ff ? 4:3?

    • Yes to Qff. I had responded to another post in detail yesterday. Convert to SPG/Marriott and then convert to QFF. A bit better by 1666 points if you convert it to SPG/Mariott points 100k = 76,666 QFF but not straight forward.
If you are going to use it for flights and dont have alot of QFF points, Convert to Asia miles. The taxes and points required are less.

E.g. Round the world ticket in Business with Asia miles is 190,000 whereas QFF 280,000.

      • Thank you! I'm currently tossing between this or the Qantas Ultimate card :|

The ultimate is currently offering 65k bonus thru referral. I travel to Asian countries a lot especially China and airlines like AirChina is an alliance partner of Qantas…

Dilemmas haha if I apply this one I can't apply Qantas :|

    • I could be wrong but, Explorer's MR Gateway cannot be converted to Qantas directly. You can convert via Hilton or Marriott Rewards like the following

You can check available conversions here.

1 Gateway Points = 0.2222 Qantas Points. VIA:
      Marriott Rewards 1: 0.6666 (Minimum 600, increment 1), then
      Qantas Points 1: 0.3333 (Minimum 3, increment 1).

  • My 18 month waiting period hasn't finished yet :(

  • Thanks, I chose this deal over the Qantas one, as I am aiming for Krisflyer… Qantas screws you on taxes with flight redemptions.
