      Usually the biggest difference is battery type. The older use NiMH (nickel metal hydride) while the more expensive uses Li-ion (lithium ion). As a result, the more expensive ones usually last 2 weeks before needing a recharge while the older ones will need a charge everyday-every second day.

      I used to wonder if there'd be any difference but after going from the $19 one to the 9000 (which was previously on sale for like $130-140ish depending on colour; search Ozbargain), I can definitely feel the difference in the speed/feeling. I also appreciate the quadrant timer (30secs instead of 2mins), and the red light which comes on if you brush too hard. The travel case is good as it holds two heads, but it uses the Braun charger plug rather than Micro USB :(

      I never touched the smartphone app though.

      Copied from a previous post i made

      They rotate (left and right) at a higher RPM
      They also pulsate (forwards and backwards), so they also clean like the phillips sonic care
      The Lipo and NiMh battery keeps a constant voltage throughout the week. So the first brush of the week gets the same RPM and the brush at the end of the week. The NiCd batteries in the Vitality means you get a good brush the first time off the charger, then its all down hill from there.
      Carry case is useful but could live without.
      The rest of the features like bluetooth and different cleaning modes are rubbish and i dont use them.
