Anyone Have Any Experience in Putting a Mini Fridge into a Bedside Table? Part 2, Putting a Mini Fridge on Wheels a Good Idea?

Something like this https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/157555686937265340/ or this https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/96405248250976125/?lp=true , i was thinking of doing this in my room. Was wondering if anyone knows which stores sell bedside tables that's big enought to fit this https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/48l-mini-bar-fridge-silver-nw-h… .Or if anyone has any experience with this before?

Just realised, I didn't have the space, so do you guys think having a mini fridge on wheels a better idea? Ideally this https://www.dormco.com/Suprima_Rolling_Compact_Refrigerator_… , https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/car-Mini-fridge-with-… or on https://www.amazon.com/DormCo-Suprima-Rolling-Compact-Refrig…. Oh and also, I have carpet…so is that a bad idea?

Thxs again :)

My only concern would be noise. I'm sure that you could probably enclose one to reduce the sufficiently reduce the noise, providing allowances were made for proper ventilation.

But disregarding that, how about the ultimate cheapo solution and make the fridge itself your bedside table?

    • Probably not, I really want to hid it away.

Good point. I’ve stayed in hotel rooms where i had to unplug the minibar because they were so loud.

There'll be heat coming from the fridge. I wouldn't recommend it if your room is relatively small because you'd definitely be able to feel the difference in temperature, especially with the door closed.

OP: Be aware that fridges (not surprisingly) put out a lot of heat and putting a fridge that's not meant to be built-in, into an enclosed wooden cabinet (unless you manually remove basically the entire back of it) will kill both the fridge and the bedside (and anything in the fridge).

Also - size-wise I'd work backwards. See how much space you have for the bedside, look for a bedside of that size, then see how big of a bar-fridge it can fit. Also, again, make sure the bedside is designed so that you can basically remove the entire back panel.

And as QW3RTY says, look up reviews for the bar fridge before you buy - cheap fridges tend to be noisy, quiet fridges tend to be expensive. Because of the airflow/ventilation the fridge will need, don't count on any sound-dampening from the fact it'll be inside the bedside at all.

I also second the idea of just using the bar fridge as your bedside. It wouldn't look as nice, but it'd serve the same purpose just as well. If you want to slightly dress it up, see if you can get pretty-looking plywood and build a cabinet around the sides of the fridge.

  • Also refrigerant gases are often toxic, some may say I am paranoid but I wouldn't put a fridge in my bedroom in case it is killing me slowly. :)

    • Or an air-con unit?

  • What do you want to keep in there?

Just put ur matress in the kitchen if you are too lazy to walk for a midnight beer

How well hydrated are you trying to be? Is your bed a place of business?

  • I always turn off the fridge when i stay in hotel rooms, they make a bloody racket

When you want to support your drinking habit but not get out of bed.

Don’t use a fridge. Too noisy and too hot. Get a bed side cabinet, put an use box/esky in it and use dry ice. It will be cold, silent and will only need filling every few days/once a week if you keep it well insulated.

(Fropanity) having a noisy arse fridge blowing hot air all over the place right next to my bed.

    • Dry ice is costly and will freeze everything (-78 degrees Celsius) - OK if you want a very expensive freezer, not so good if you want a fridge.

      • You don’t fill it all the way to the top with dry ice. Then it will become a freezer… :D

For the record, I think a fridge next to a bed is a stupid idea. It’s only about 10 paces to get for a fridge in many homes. It sounds to me like OP lives in a share house and wants to hide their beers from the filthy stealing housemates…
