These are available as a nationwide clearance.

They are very fat and bulky though, and the Mirabella Genio that Kmart has started selling is actually better in that it's a slimmed down plug so you can plug in other appliances next to it, and it also offers a 1.5 amp USB charging port (always on).

The app for it however is not as polished (it doesn't offer homescreen widgets for e.g)

    • Thanks for that… Was actually looking at these this morning.

The brilliant branded one at Bunnings is the exact same device as the Mirabella one and it's regular price is $20, which is actually an OEM of the sonoff one.
You can use the brilliant app, Mirabella app or ewelink app for any of them

If this had power usage monitoring it would have been an instabuy from me.

I need dat energy usage data and monitoring.

      • why?

        • Curiosity mainly.

I wanna know what my power outlets are using (from when I am just charging my devices to using two fans to my whole PC setup) also for some new and old appliances around the house like the new portable air conditioner and second hand washing machine.

          Just curious.

Can use power consumption to program activities. Discussed in a comment in deal for the HS110 - it was programmed to announce end of washing machine cycle by Google.

          • @INFIDEL: So I can get a notification when the kids turn on the TV ?

            • @jv: Yep

@jv: Until they learn to bypass the Smart Plug & plug into normal power socket😀
              Life is an intelligence test.

Nah, they partly take after their mum…

                This looks good…

                • @jv: I wonder which part??

HS300 Power board with 6 independently switched wifi sockets - nice, price please! I don't think it will be on clearance😢
                  But - US sockets!
                  Around $120 delivered on eBay
                  amazon.com

                  • @INFIDEL: The HS300 is probably only useful to a few people. It might be handy for rebooting network gear if the internet goes down and you are away.

@whats up skip: If internet is down, how do you access the wifi sockets?

                      • +1

@ca6leguy: You use the failure of the internet to trigger an automatic off/on function. There are a few ways to do this. Using Node-Red would be the easiest, but I think you can do it via IFTTT. In the case of IFTTT you would have an event that turns off the modem in six minutes time. Then turn it back on again in six and half minutes. You then have IFTTT continue to change the times to a further five minutes in the future. If the internet goes down, then the update from IFTTT doesn't happen, so the reboot process occurs.

                    • @whats up skip: I would use it to control hifi gear in my cabinet. I have a bunch of vintage stuff which doesn't have remote triggers or IR control and it would be nice to say "Alexa, turn on my stereo" (or whatever the equivalent is) and it powers on my various amps and components.

You don't need the power metering for that, so you could use a Broadlink MP1 which has four individually controlled outlets. Much cheaper and more compact than four smart sockets on a normal power board. It was about $35 when I got it. HomeAssistant compatible.

I've got one - and it works - but I wouldn't exactly recommend it since it's chinese sockets that require an earthed plugs (or toothpick+frustration).

It also doesn't register on/off clicks in the app if you are too quick. Switching one means you have to wait a second or two before clicking the next one. That won't be a problem with Alexa though.

I use mine outdoors in a weatherproof box like this one.

ETA: I also don't know if it works directly with Alexa, I just use Home Assistant.

                • @jv: No price on it though.

        • Why wouldn't you want power monitoring

          • @asa79: Higher cost or other disadvantages of the device. If you know what the consumption of the device is and it is a fixed value, then all you need to know is what the usage time is.

            • @whats up skip: Not all devices use the same power exactly, say a washing machine or Kettle will sit at a standby and then ramp up/down.

You can use this ramp down value to send a notification to say your washing is finished or kettle is boiled

If you have too many devices running, send alot saying high usage in the house, so then you can turn something off that isnt required.

              • @asa79: I control the pool pump and chlorinator using a smart switch, but there is little point in monitoring the consumption as the variation is very small, less than 5%. I would suggest the variation of a kettle is less than 2% and most simple kettles have no standby consumption.

I am not saying there is no point in having a consumption measurement, there are just many cases where there is no need or little point.

                • @whats up skip: I have whole house monitoring at moment, and would like to match that with each room and device for a break down of usage. I waiting until the powerpoints with energy monitoring are released hopefully soon based on email i got from the vendor

    • 100% i agree..i had 3 of these, was very reluctant to get the Mirabella ones but after i got one, it got me hooked. HS100's on a double powerpoint was hell.

      • Still better than the Aldi ones for space taken up.

  • Aldi ones are $10 at the moment if your store still has stock

    • I have heard they are $7 in some stores. Not much stock around though. I still have a few I haven't used. I would probably prefer some of the other brands/models now.

    • Make sure you keep the receipt, they stop working after a few months of use.

  • Managed to get Big W to price match this today off the photo of the receipt. Feeling very lucky.

  • Not available anywhere in WA, weird.

  • If anyone bought these and decided not to use them, please send me a message. I'm looking to buy a couple.

  • Down to $6 if you can find them.
