Samsung TV Died, out of Warranty Options?

Hi Everyone,
I was looking for some advice on what I should do.
I have a Samsung UA55HU9000W (55inch Series 9 Curved UHD TV) that seems to have died a few days ago.
When I unplug it from the one connect box the 'insert box to tv' is displayed on the TV but the moment I plug it in it flickers out with the start up logo then fades to black with the red light on the tv blinking. Sometimes it goes to the TV channel for a second but then cuts back to black.

I thought it was the remote since once i turned it on nothing happened, but it shouldn't be the remote since without the one box connected it turns off and on as usual, it's only until the one box is connected issues arise.

It's a couple years old so out of warranty, I've tried finding a replacement box online but no-avail, and since I have a TS01 model the parts cost a bomb, just for the circuit inside the box it's $597 not a complete new box I can plug-in and go.

Anyone had a similar issue? I haven't contacted Samsung yet because it's out of warranty so I was trying to fix this issue on my own. Is it best to just buy a new TV at this point?

Out of manufacturer's warranty, but perhaps not out of your statuary guarantee?

  • Bring up ACL and reasonable use which is 5 years on a tv i think

Also go to the store purchased from first

  • When I unplug it from the one connect box

The what box? Are you sure it's not an issue with the box as opposed to with the TV?

    • I think it is instead of having ports on the tv.

Regardless step 1 is dig out the receipt… Then maybe go to the retailer. They might want to see the problem so try and record it on your mobile phone so you can avoid bringing it in.

Step 2 is to organise for a repair. Given it is a 55" TV, I'd expect someone to come to your house. They'll either repair or quote. Then you can talk to samsung about warranties.

I'd say 5-6 years is reasonable for a tv these days. Under consumer laws you should be able to get somewhere.

Can you plug a USB stick(with media on it) in to the USB? What happens when you plug that in?

Also, try reinstall of the TV firmwre

  • Have you looked you your model number on youtube? There are a lot of videos on TV repair that show up in my recommended videos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0nCBSMucas -Im at work, i cant watch this video to see if it addresses the same problem and possible solutions.

As above, 5-6 years for a TV sounds about right for a lifespan.

4 years ago my 4 year old Samsung Plasma died out of warranty. They replaced it with a new 4K TV worth about $4k at the time. Just rung them up and it was sorted out inside 3 days.

I don’t understand the issue - what is the “one box”? Can you watch normal tv by plugging in the aerial cable? It is not clear if the issue is with the “one box” or something else.

    • Referring to the Samsung "OneConnect" box, which many Samsung TVs have to eliminate the need of having all the ports on the back of the TV.

Really useful to have if you wall-mount as you don't have a bunch of cables running up your wall.

      • So the only port the tv itself has is the one connect port? If it has any additional ports such as aerial or HDMI than I recommend Senpai try connecting directly to one of these to work out what the issue is.

  • Hey mate. I have the same tv as you that unfortunately got knocked off the tv stand and smashed the screen a few months ago.

If your unsuccessful with ACL claim and need a new one connect box. Let me know and we can work something out

  • My Samsung plasma was 3 years old to the month when it died and Samsung replaced it
It was the Power supply and as they didn't stock the item anymore they deemed it a major fault and replaced it

I payed about $3000 at the time for it , they offered a store credit with Harvey Norman as well. I took the replacement option as it was better value

  • I believe the one connect cables are quite fragile - is it possible it got damaged?

If it is, I know newer models are entitled to ring up and get one replacement cable within the first 12 months. A little bit over, but might be worth speaking to Samsung to see what they can do?

  • Give Samsung a call. They are usually pretty helpful.

My Samsung TV died after 2 years. I tried contacting HN but they told me to talk to Samsung. Funnily enough Samsung told me to talk to HN. Long story short I brought up ACL and they (Samsung) sent someone out to diagnose the problem. Was something to do with the main board/power so they replaced it with the latest model that was deemed equivalent to mine.

  • Ring Samsung, my mate had his TV just out of warranty by a few months and rang up with an issue that he was willing to pay for. The guy came out and replaced his whole panel for free.

  • May be the one connect cable is faulty, it is very fragile cable. But as others have suggested, contact Samsung - depending on the price you paid, you should get between 5-8 years of warranty under ACL.

  • Thanks for your responses guys, misplaced the receipt so I had to call up BingLee to resend me out one, now I'm waiting on Samsung higher tech support to get back to me. I forgot that this TV was close to 3k at the time so hopefully they can do something.

Just an update in case anyone finds this post in the future, Samsung repair came in today and fixed the box of the TV (one box circuit which would've been a 500+ if I tried sourcing the parts myself) all free of charge. Although I didn't get a new TV I guess the most important part is I didn't pay for anything.

Thanks to everyone who suggested above, initially the Samsung guy over the phone wanted to charge me but once you bring up ACL they quickly dismiss it and if you don't have proof of purchase well.. can't do much. But if you're like me and lost mine if you bought it from a store like Binglee they keep their receipts for 6 years on system.

    :)

    • great news, thanks for letting us know.
