Where to Buy High Power High Quality Magnifying Glasses in Sydney?

I'm looking to buy a magnifying glass for my dad who has some eye condition that won't allow him to read.

I'm reaching out to Ozbargain community for help.
Do you know where I can find high power high quality magnifying glasses?

His eye condition is really bad so a normal magnifying glass won't help. I'm looking at 30x ones

Thank you!

I've bought similar products for my family members.

Vision Australia has them. Eg https://shop.visionaustralia.org/shop/product/225x-magnifier…

    • Thank you! His condition is really bad so he will need a high power one. I'm looking at something like 30x

Call Vision Australia tomorrow and ask what they can do. Also discuss with his Eye doctor what they recommend.

Does he find reading an iPad easier?

I'm afraid you'll find that a 30x magnifier would be almost impossible to use for reading. The field of view will be extremely small (less than the area of a postage stamp), with a focus distance less than 10mm.

I suggest you look at getting him an iPad or a Kindle, where the type size can be easily enlarged and he can also use glasses if necessary.

Been in this position myself (though thankfully eyesight nowhere near as bad) and found that this is far trickier than "just buy a magnifying glass" which was my initial idea. Note did NOT purchase anything special in the end so can't tip you.

You need to consider weight, field covered to minimise the need to constantly move, amount of light needed, clarity of image and probably other things. Advice to consult knowledgeable sources is spot on, at worst have a look at user comments on Amazon for related products to get an idea of what real users find, sifting out the useless rubbish comments of course.

30x is a microscope, not a magnifying glass! You will be able to see any bacteria on the page.

Your wife has started complaining, has she?
