Medicare Question - Who Gets The Rebate if on The Same Card?

Hey guys,

Having a tough time getting through to MyGov and Medicare contact centre..

I'm just trying to link my Medicare to MyGov to do a claim, I'm currently on the same card as my dad..so if say he does a claim, will the rebate come to me as well?

I don't want to transfer him the money every time..

Thanks in advance!

When you register for MyGov, it asks for your reference number. That's the number alongside your name on the card and that's how they differentiate between yourself and your dad and anyone else that may be on your card.

I should know this, I worked on the Medicare online site in 2016-17… I believe there's only one active bank account linked to your Medicare card, so it will go there. Once you get into Medicare online you'll be able to add/edit your bank details.

    • thx a lot all sorted!

  • Can you get your own card?

When my husband goes to the doctor, his rebate goes to our joint account. When I go, it goes to another account. Clearly they recognise the different details even though it's the same card number.
