Motorcycle - Pet Carriers (Dog or Cat)

Hi Ozbargain,

I am thinking to get a dog or a cat. I travel for long distances and for prolonged period of time on a motorcycle. Need to know if anyone has tried any pet carriers or any reviews especially carrying pets on a motorcycle.

Thank you all for your help in advance.

What happens when you search in Google "motorcycle pet carrier"?

Thought it was funny but in all seriousness it could be a good solution for you, specially something like this one. Haven't seen anyone using on a motorbike though.

Here is something even better (and safer) Link
I can see there are plenty of options available, perhaps all of them not sold in Australia but you may be able to import one using a parcel forwarder. As the previous poster said, google is your friend - Should have easily saved the time you spend posting this here.

p.s. : Don't forget the riding gear for your pet :) Link

Oh my god the pet riding gear is fantastic. I have no intention of ever putting my dog on a motorbike but I need all that gear.

    • Looked online but need some ‘ozbargain’ user reviews if anyone tried, trust ‘ozbargain’ than google reviews. There are different products which aren’t available in Australia.

You are better off getting your pets their own motorbike. They will be more independent and may even finally get a job and stop freeloading.

You could get a sidecar for your bike. My Kelpie loves riding on the back of my XT250 (on my property only, chasing cattle) but for some reason she won't get on the carry rack of the XR600 I can't explain it :)

    • Ha ha, different ‘friends’ different opinion. My ideal is to have ride on my back as well. However, I think it’s illegal and I think it’s more dangerous on highways.

      • Change of center of mass makes a huge difference at "100" Km/h into a bend. Ever had a pillion that has no F'ín idea? Had a friend who got the giggles at speed and sat bolt upright, took all my strength/skill not to high side us into the armco.

  • Please don't transport a dog on a motorbike. Statistically motorbikes are dangerous and the chances of a stupid driver hitting your bike is not low! If you want to take that risk with your life - fine, please don't put animals lives at risk as well.

Lesser of two evils. An owner who cares for their pet but rides is still better than a negligent owner who's pet ends up surrendered to a kill shelter which happens all the time.
On a side note, adopt from shelters people.

      • Yes. Anyone who involves their dog in their life - well that's the only reason to have a dog. I hate people who leave their dog in the back yard and that's it.
