Would You Buy a Samsung Galaxy S8 Active in 2019?

Thinking of upgrading from my S7, It's a little slower than it was, but not bad to use. I don't mind samsungs UI and the camera still does what I want, but the battery life's a bit 'meh' now.

Enter the S8 Active, 4000ah battery, jump from SD820 to SD835, band 28, no case needed, same camera so decent images, better selfie camera, not that I use it other than skype. better internal memory (64GB over 32GB). Probably keep it for 18 months to 2 years, battery life notwithstanding.

Short Q, is it 'too old' to consider in 2019? I guess with the imminent release of S10 and SD 855 it'l be 2 gens old not just 1, but S8 plus battery case is massive and not as ruggged.

Is there something which would tick these boxes over the S8 active that's newer and similarly priced (c. $500 AU)

  • got the s8 active for $400. Decent phone

Bing lee 20% off on ebay and 15% off ebay gift cards

The LG V30+ might be a better buy though

    • Wow, where/when did you get one for $400? that's really good! Was it Bing Lee?

I didn't know bing lee sold them, I"ll have a look

    • can't find the s8 active for $400 in decent condition, mind telling me where you managed to buy one from? thanks

      • Wrong model. I was thinking of the A8

  • Might also be worth noting that the mainstream Australian model S galaxies aren't Snapdragon, they're Exynos. So the generational differences between the two chipsets, and within the generations of the chipsets will vary.

    • yeah I don't mind snapdragon they're broadly similar lesser battery than exynos, better graphics so all swings and roundabouts

  • For $500 you can get a very decent china droid.

How about the one plus 6 for $575 ?

    • china droid don't have what i'm looking for re: b28/nfc, rugged build a la active series, and a pretty much guaranteed decent camera (at least in the Samsung S series).

  • Where can I buy one of these? Everyone seems out of stock…
