  • I thought in another thread someone said they stopped doing student discounts? Or was that Vodafone?

    • +1

I think they have changed to a “Student Portal” where you get various discounts throughout the year. Currently have 15% and 25% off some plans. Pretty sure they have stopped the flat 10% off though.

      https://offer.optus.com.au/student-hub

    • Yeah, I spoke to chat, the student discount 10% doesn't apply to lower plans. Only what they have on the student hub website and the percentage can be different. It's a shame.

  • hey where did you get the Aus RRP from? could you drop a link?

  • If you don't need so many gigs and happy with a high quality premium phone there is also the 10e for $25 less. Saving $600 over the life of the contract. Also fits better in the hand

  • +11

That is a lot of money for a phone…. however i know ppl that spend 6 grand on a little hand bag or 3 grand on a wallet so what do i know? maybe im just poor…

    • +6

Those 6k handbags generally go up in price if they are the classic designs…well so I've been told. I have yet to come across anyone who has actually sold any of their bags yet though.

      • +21

That's what your partner says to convince you that's ok to buy them. Honey in a few years time it will triple in value if we sell it.

    • +2

The Lemmings pay $2k+ for another brand phone with similar specs to an S9.

      • The difference is that $2k+ phone that these lemmings pay for will still be getting OS updates 5 years later.

        • +1

the previous OS were already on par with update 5 years later after copying them

        • +2

Yeah the OS that doesn't let you set a data limit, refuses to play MP4 file formats, won't act as mass storage device and lacks many other simple features that anyone with an IQ over two digits would expect from a $2K "smart phone"

        • +3

Oh, the updates that intentionally slow down your phone so that you need to buy a new one?

        • cmon. smarter people buy Android. It's fact. Instagram bimbos and mums and dads who think Facebook is cool use iphone.

  • I see Telstra will be offering a free upgrade to 5g model once its released if you pre-order the 10+. No prices or plans on their website yet though.

    • It's out now.. But i cant see which plans are eligible for the upgrade

      • Looks like all 10+ plans. They are around $30 dearer than Optus a month however.

  • that's quick, better wait a few months at least to get some decent plans

  • Do they have dual sim?

    • No

      • not quite sure yet, same happened with Note 9 which supports Duo SIM :). I heard Samsung rolls out hybrid sim slot from this S10 series: 1 + 1/MicroSD.

    • +2

      Dual SIM: S10 512GB, S10+ 512GB/ 1TB
      Single SIM: S10 128GB, S10+ 128GB

      • Yes but will the Aussie market get the dual sim version?

        • +1

Australian market will have 512GB and 1TB variants as HYBRID SIM

  • +3

Or just wait a few months and get it under $1k

    • +8

or a few more months after that for S11+

      • +5

or a little longer then the s12+

        • +3

S13+ seems like a good phone

        • +5

S13+ is definitely the one to go for.

          • @cheapo999: I dont know, im pretty happy sitting on my S2, with custom firmware…

          • @cheapo999: My next upgrade will be an S14+

            • @vid_ghost: Just make sure your current phone can survive 4 years wait :-)

          • -1

            @cheapo999:

S13+ is definitely the one to go for.

Because we're a western country, it will be S12A+ and S12B+, no S13+.

Only the asian markets will call it S13+

    • +4

I'm hearing early rumours about the S13+. Only today I saw someone on ozbargain mentioning the S12+ specifically. Source : see comment above.

      • +3

        S14+ better bro

        • +1

or should we say "marginally improved camera from S13"?

      • +2

the S100+ will be the phone of the century. why get this crap when you can be saving for the one phone to rule them all..

  • According to gizmodo the rrp for s10+ 128gb is 1499

    • well then it is even better lol

  • +4

Colour me impressed with the S10. That ultrasonic fingerprint sensor surprised me. Way quicker than I had anticipated, and One UI looks great.

No longer can Samsung be shamed for the ugly, awful software.

Just wish they did a bit more with the headphone jack for us audio connoisseurs

    • I agree. I think it's up to the Audio Software guys to start designing software, like they do for other platforms.

    • I have an S8 and combine it with a mini dac that puts it on par with Hi-res audio players

Would love Samsung to follow LGs route and have one built in, but unfortunately most people don't care about this feature

    • +1

It was rumored to come to the s8+, so no it's not quicker then u could have anticipated if u were here two years ago reading rumors lol. It's actually about damn time it's out.

    • -1

No longer can Samsung be shamed for the ugly, awful software.

You must have not seen Samsung's ugly, awful software then.

      • +2

Which one? Samsung S8 software and beyond is nice. The pre-S8 software was ugly.

    • Awful ugly software? Compared to other leading phone companies I much prefer the freedom and navigation to access all advanced features standard. But I've been working in the tech industry for over 15 years and have learnt some people are afraid of operating systems that don't treat you like a baby who can't be trusted.

  • +1

There is a S10? Jeez I'm already 2 models behind!

    • +1

Same s8+ user here and typed this on my outdated model. Will I buy s10+? Find out next time.

      • Don't leave us hanging like that.

    • makes you feel inferior right? i feel the same, now i know why CEOs get paid in millions

    • +1

I mean I did go from an S4 to an S8+ so I cant see me getting an S10 - Maybe an S15….doesn't seem too far away :|

      • +1

Nah bro get the s17+ it's definitely better

    • +2

I am using my S7 and honestly, there is nothing that i want to do that the S7 cannot handle. I took great pics even iphone owner are envy. I am about to finish my 2 years contract plan for the phone, and have been thinking of going prepaid on kogan or the like. In this age, phone are very capable already and there is not much more to improve. Therefore i can not justify dropping 1k+ on a new phone

      • +1

I'm also on the same generation but with an s7 edge and have had it for more than 2 years… Almost 3.

Battery is getting worse by the day and the s10 looks tempting but I'll wait for a better price for the dual sim version.

        • Replace the s7 edge battery. It'll last another 2 years.

          • @conservative: I looked this up about a year ago and I think it'll cost 150-200 to get it fixed by Samsung (rather than 3rd parties to retain the water resistance) which is a bit too much for me.

  • +1

does HM port in stack with student discount?

    • -1

I don’t see you can’t, but worth doing in in store at HN and see how they go :)

  • +2

    Guna wait for Note10

      • Where did you hear that? Sounds BS.

        • +5

Some BS indeed, too bad I ran out of negative votes. Lol

      • +3

"The Note 9 is selling too well, let's scrub it and not have any competitors when the iPhone and Pixel is released."

    • $3699

  • +1

Anyone want to take bets when this will be on a $59 plan? Am hoping November…

    • Only the S10e (lite) will be on the $59 plan come December because that has the same price as the S9 that was on the previous $59 special own a phone plan.

The S10 is at the same price as the S9+ so may be able to get that at $69

and the S10+ is at a whole new price point.. not to mention the

S10 5G (S10 NOTE) at an even higher price

    S10+ with 50gb Data at Telstra is $124 a month for 50gb.

A Port in Telstra Plan is 50gb with a $200 JB Gift Card for $45 a month, effectively bringing the cost of the plan to $28.33 a month. Plus the $1499 at full RRP and it's $2579 for 2 12 month plans with $400 worth of gift cards… yet you can get it on a plan for $2976 and be locked in for 2 whole years….

So pay around 30% more for what???? Seriously plans are archaic.

    • Where is this on the Telstra site?

      • The JB offer? The S10 is bright as day on the site

    • Exactly my thought, but Telstra is offering few bonuses:
      1. Free upgrade to Samsung S10, 5G handset when it arrives
      2. $45 plan doesn't get you Unlimited international minutes, which is about $10 per month, for 24 months = $240

      • Not to all countries, Optus and Telstra don't do unlimited minutes to Philippines, so no point for me.

Buy phone outright (S10) for $1350
Buy Jabra 65T instead of pre-order Galaxy Buds - $240 if you wait for eBay 10% off, maybe less occasionally.
50GB Telstra Plan for $28.33 per month

        1350+$240+880=2450 vs $2280 on contract.

Plus if you have the right credit card, you can have shopper protection. I used that once on my S7 Edge.

  • Came here for the free bud

    • -2

same, i remember with the last deal with the s8, mate pro and iphone provided by harvey norman with the $200 eftpos card, the employee told me if i cancelled within a month i could keep the $200 eftpos card, the only hassle would be paying for the plan, if harvey norman provide the buds do you guys think i could keep buds if i return the phone to optus in a month?

  • +1

Get rid of the international minutes and some of that data and make it cheaper then I'll bite.

    • That stuff is how they justify the high ticket price. These things don't cost them that much. Few will use 200GB anyway even though they paid for it.

So they can increase the price while only having to pay for that data/intl minutes for a small number of people.

      • I have 90gb plan optus byo. No home internet. Unmetered Netflix and other TV streaming. Sometimes I crack 50gb a month. Phones hot spot is always on.

        • I would call you a minority. But still, you have 40GB unused which you paid for.

They only have to pay the full data costs for those who actually reach the 90GB.

Those who have NBN at home or at work will use even less than your 50GB.

Personally, I find the phone will overheat and drain quick if you hotspot it all day.

          • @lostn: Yes phone is always hot and draining fast but I do my best to take care of it. never leave it on charge and always have it out of the case and standing up by the window screen to get a good breeze whe it's hot spotting - just looked and it's done over 970 full charge cycles and is still going strong with a good battery health report, maybe down from very good. If I didn't have unmetered Netflix I would be going over the 90gb easily. My plan is pretty good in my opinion, negotiated 90GB at $39 a month after 6 months of Optus never having my plan correct. Long story but the short of it they screwed up and I got mad and they made me happy.

  • Is that 200G data per month?

    • Click 'go to deal' and u can find out yourself, in short, yes.

      • Just wondering how people use up all those 200G. I can't even consume all of my 12G plan, and I am a heavy user

        • Yep and with nbn now I don't ever use my data anymore at home.

        • I personally would just buy phone outright and then get an BYO SIM from Optus or Telstra and it ends up cheaper and more flexibility with data plans. 12 months vs 24.

        • The ones who stream movies/TV/vids on their mobile device.

  • Where do people stand on owning versus leasing a phone?

    • +2

None, buy outright but owning is better I think. Why spend all that money and end up not owning the phone? You can give to a friend or family member or even sell after 24 months over.

    • +1

If you intend to sell the phone when you're done, or hand it down to another, just pay the extra $10 a month. You will get much more value when selling it.

To never own it just to save $10 a month is not a good deal.

If you keep it lying around unused after you replace it, then may as well lease it.

      • +1

Yeah, that's fair enough - just looking at the current market rate for a second hand 64gb S8 and it's not much ($300-$400 ish?) but I suppose better than the $10/month saving on a lease (which could be damaged or lost, at which point it's definitely not good value).

  • Woolworths mobile have the S10+ for $92 with 22gb or $82 with 10gb over 24 mo

The S10 is about $10 cheaper for the same.

    • -2

      Telstra or Optus, or none.

      • +2

        Woolies uses the Telstra network…
