Officeworks Don't Price Beat for Multiple QTY Specials ?

Officeworks knocked back my price beat request because the competitors price is a multiple QTY special, even though I want to buy the same QTY.

Special is 2x logitech harmony 650 remotes, $115. (logitechshop ebay)

Does this sound right? Its not a commercial QTY or a special double pack officeworks don't stock so seems to be within their terms.

cheers

  • Different SKU? Else talk to a manager?

  • same sku.

That was on the phone. Junior checked with the boss and boss said no.

Try another store (or phone sales) … price matches are YMMV at every store.

Phone guy said try in store too so he obviously thinks the rejection is borderline unjustified. I may just do that, but I probably should just order from LTS in case the deal ends before I get to OW.

    Seems reasonable to me.

    • what..my expectation or their rejection?

      • Sorry, their rejection seems reasonable.

Why don't you buy from ebay then? It says there is also PUSH5 5% off code.

Yeah, I know the price will be the same so it's just convenience. I'd like them today if possible and easier to deal with OW if there's any warranty problems etc. (I've had one die on me before)

I've been trying to think of something else I need so I can get 7,10 or 12% off with PSAVEIT. $5 short at $115!

          • @watts: Have you tried another store like salmon123 suggested?

            • @John Kimble: no. original inquiry was to the OW 1300# so I haven't been into or spoken to any specific store. I'm stuck at home with a crook baby today so in the meantime just trying to work out whether I should bother going in.

I hadn't thought of calling a store to check. thought 1300# was the way to go

          • @watts:

know the price will be the same so it's just convenience

If it's just the convenience and you don't mind paying $115, just get JB Hifi or Good Guys or Bing Lee to price match the logitech ebay store. You could probably go into those stores and haggle it down to $110 anyway.

I'm actually surprised that OW is kicking up a stink over $15. Take a look in the classifieds or gumtree, you could probably find a OW or JB Hifi gift card that's $15 off face value.

            • @salmon123: cheers for the suggestions. Decided to just order from LST ebay for $109.25 delivered.

          • @watts: Buy some batteries

  • Does this sound right?

    Yes.

    • I thought it was fair enough at first but after reading T&C's I don't think it is. The relevant exclusion would be:

"Commercial quantities and pricing (i.e. a reduced price not available to the public)"

That can be interpreted 2 ways:
      1) You can't buy a large QTY of a single item. fair enough

      2) They don't beat Commercial QTY deals. Similar to my case but as it's a special available to the public and a low QTY I figure it doesn't fall within that exclusion.

The fact they single out commercial QTY specials implies that non-commercial QTY deals are OK.

My interpretation here is that your circumstance wasn't a commercial quantity situation. I think yours was more of a conditional deal, akin to a BOGOF deal. Now imagine their return policy. You return one item unused and ta dah, you just got it cheaper than possible elsewhere.

I don't blame you for trying your luck. Just if they say no, take it on the chin. It would be open to exploitation and a nightmare to explain to staff of humble intelligence.

Yeah, I agree it’s akin to BOGOF. i’d looked for precedent of accepting (or rejecting) BOGOF deals, but nothing. I would assume it’s fine but I guess not now.

Returns aren’t something I’d considered because I didn’t have my ‘how can I exploit this deal’ hat on. I can see it could be a concern for OW, but I assume the competitor with the special has similar concerns and ways to mitigate.

Don’t worry, It’s already taken on the chin. This thread was always more to comprehend why they didn’t accept just out of interest and for others info.

I wasn’t ever going to jump up and down and demand they beat it based on how I interpret the T&C’s, but if there was clear precedent then maybe I’d try again. Ive already ordered from LTS now anyway:)
