Brisbane Wall Mount TV Installer

Hi all,

I've just recently Purchased 75" Sony X90f tv and would like to have it wall mounted in an old Queenslander with VJ walls
It's just a bit big for me to do it myself

Does anyone have any recommended TV installers in Brisbane?
Someone who cares about equipment, does a good job and does not rip off?

Many thanks!

  • The only people who would specifically do that is HiFi installers I suppose.

I would put an ad up on AirTasker for this type of Job https://www.airtasker.com/

It’s perfect for this kind of stuff, basically all they need to do is find a stud and screw into that or if it’s a brick wall then piece of piss.

    • VJ walls

      • Pretty big VJ walls to fit a 75'

        • 75' yes, 7.5" no

        • Yea. It's the only massive wall with no windows… it happens to be 2.6m wide!

  • Yea… VJ walls seems solid from houses built in the 1920s. They seem alot thicker than more modern houses. There maybe studs behind it as the other side was plastered but I can't tell!

    • There's practically no difference between mounting a TV on VJ walls or plasters. You simply cannot mount them on either one without locating the studs. Yes, there's studs behind them.

Locate studs - YouTube. If not, knock and locate. Confirm by using small nails. Locate the left most and right most edge of the stud. You'll know if you've missed a stud if the nail suddenly goes deep without resistance.

The rest of the process is just knowing the height to place the wall mount as some VESA mounts are skewed or will skew the mount to the top or bottom (typically those are the TVs with non-flat rear profile).

Mark the areas where you'll be placing the coach screws. If the coach is m6, use an 6mm pilot hole for hard wood (the threads are wider than m6). I have an old house where the studs are not structural pine and I used a smaller pilot and the stud cracked. It is also about a 100yo house.

For pine, you can almost get away without a pilot but I'd use m(X-1)mm.

      • Thank you for that. That's great help.

The particular wall i'm going to install it i think should have studs in it. On the other side, there's a rangehood as it's the kitchen.

No other interior walls in this house appear to have studs though. There's a horizontal decorative piece about half way up that's about it!
        it's probably an inch thick.

Perhaps I should get a stud finder to help out abit…

        • This guy clearly doesn't know what a VJ wall is. I assume you are taking about real VJs and not the MDF Crap. Depending on the height of the ceiling you will have either 1 or 2 horizontal braces tieing all the VJs together. If you can get a coach screw into this great. If not don't worry. A stud finder or knocking on VJs won't work to help you locate the framed out wall behind, the boards are just to thick.

A VJ is roughly 30mm Thick of solid hard wood timber and can be load bearing depending on the location of the wall.

You will have no issue mounting the TV on the VJs. Even if you don't hit a stud. If the wall on the other side is framed out you also don't beet to worry about the screws sticking out.

  • I recently used http://www.mediaroominstallations.com.au as recommended by Videopro

    • do you remember if they cost arm and a leg? did they do a good job?

  • I am looking to buy the same TV in the near future. Curious to know if you have got it wall mounted yet? If so, do you mind telling us how much it costs you?

  • I used TV On the wall to mount my TV https://www.tvonthewall.com.au/
and they said its all about the stud spacing so in general its 600 or 450 but if you want to centre a TV in a large wall your best bet to go eith 860 brackets
