Looking for Recommendation on Buying Second Hand Car Budget 8k
    genuine seller

Uh.. this isn't a wanted add.
Not sure what you mean by "genuine seller" anyway. A 'genuine buyer' IMO would be one that actually has the money and wants to spend it. Are you a genuine buyer .

For something with good fuel economy, good first car, and something for someone spending 8k with little knowledge of car stuff ….

Go for a very small car, still with factory warranty
It's going to be good on fuel, easier to park and maneuver for a learner (by getting compact car, you basically making the road and carparks a larger space) , still under new car warranty means you don't have to worry as much about being totally screwed and losing 8k. Check logbook that all required services were carried out (or factory warranty may be void).

    • I doubt you'll find a car under warranty for under $8K unless it's a wreck - I could be wrong, I've never looked.

  • New here.
Yea i am a genuine buyer with absolutely no knowledge of car. As a foreigner i cannot buy new car so looking for second best. I will follow your suggestion and ask for log book. Thank you .

Not only ask for log book.
New cars here usually can come with 3 years, up to 7 years warranty . So you could buy small comoact car 4 years old, still with the warranty from when it was new .
This means, that any problem, can be fixed very cheap or for free (under warranty) so less likely to be problems, simply because well, the seller can just have them fixed for free.

The 7 years warranty, that would be 'extended warranty' , so the owner would have had to choose that option and pay extra when they bought car new.

Anything out of warranty, you might find a major problem, eg. Needs new engine installed, and will cost alot of extra money.

Buying a car that is still covered by new car warranty, is almost risk free. If needed new engine, it would be covered under warranty.

As a foreigner i cannot buy new car so looking for second best.

Sounds like you have enough money to buy new. You could buy something less than 2 years old. Then it would be sure to be covered still by the 'new car warranty' I think.

      • thanks for all the information. gaining some knowledge now not in a hurry to buy.

As a foreigner i cannot buy new car

Foreigners in Australia are allowed to purchase and own new vehicles. Finding a new one for $8k is going to be difficult.

      • ok. I wanted to save some bucks buying second hand and hope it last me some years without major faults.

What do you want to use your car for? I suggest you look at a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Agree. Get one with a Sahara badge on the back left.

    • driving to and from work. groceries.

Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Getz, Mazda 2, or Honda Jazz. Make sure you get it inspected by a mechanic and check if there's any money owing on it (https://www.ppsr.gov.au) before purchasing.

Can you drive a manual transmission?

    • Yea i can.

      • +2

Then filter your searches for manual transmission. They are generally cheaper and harder to sell because people can't drive them anymore. Most are to precious to drive manual or just don't care for enjoying driving these days.

Actually, you're just pathetically insecure and obviously trying to justify your ignorant bias by hating on others, which is weak and always sad to see. As an automotive enthusiast with a manual license I can say that driving a manual doesn't add anything to the experience unless you're in a vintage pre-2000 car. It's nothing more than busywork in a modern vehicle and a waste of attention, paddles are clearly superior and manuals should stay in the past where they belong, on beautiful older cars where it's legitimately part of the experience.

@HardlyCharly: Except if you are driving mostly in heavy traffic (commuting) having that extra pedal can really suck sometimes.
