New MacBook Air 256GB Best Price for Uni Student in Brisbane

Hi,

I'm trying to find the best price for a new model MacBook Air with 256GB (in Space Grey) for university.

The best I've been able to find is OfficeWorks, which seems to have slightly raised their prices in the last couple of days to $1997 (and no free Beats headphones which I don't need, but could potentially sell?).

Does anyone know of any better deals? Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Michal

  • You could probably score a good deal on eBay 20% off sales. There's none currently running that I'm aware of but they pop up every now and then so I suggest keeping an eye out for those.

The Apple student discount deal with Beats for $2069 seems to be a good deal. You can probably get rid of the Beats for around $300-400 if you prefer to sell them.

Also, just wondering if you've taken a look at other devices in the $2000 range? You can get a godly laptop in that price range if Apple isn't a requirement for you. Dell has an amazing student sale on right now with up to $500-$1000 discounts on some devices.

    $1724 (RRP $2300) - https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-13-700…

    $1818 (RRP $2800) - https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-15-700…

    $1954 (RRP $2300) - https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/new-xps-13-9380…

    • Thanks for the advice. Bad timing on my part as usual in terms of sales.

I think at best I could sell the Beats under $200. Or am I wrong in this regard? I'd prefer to skip the hassle if I could just get a better price. I'm in a bit of a rush at this stage as an iPad doesn't really cut it for programming.

While technically an Apple laptop isn't a necessity I consider MacOS to be as my entire eco-system is Apple. While I'm happy to Hackintosh at home I don't want the hassle on my laptop while trying to deal with deadlines.

Is there any chance OfficeWorks would even consider matching the Edu pricing in terms of a discount in lieu of the Beats headphones(obviously not at the RRP).

EDIT: I also notice neither of those 13" Dell models have a HiDPI display.

  • Hmm, I guess non-Mac is off limits for you then. I had a look at Gumtree and people are selling the free beats for $300-400.

Under $200? No way man that's too low, I'm guessing after negotiation you could get rid of them for $275-350. Since the market is saturated with these at the moment since uni is commencing/commenced for everyone, if worst comes to worst $250-300.

Just a thought, but maybe you could pay $50 more to get the Studio wireless 3s instead of the Solo and try selling those instead since there won't be as many Studios vs Solos, of course you needa do your research on that before making the decision. (I think black and red is the most desirable colourway)

And nope, Officework will definitely not price match anything to do with the free beats, even at a discounted rate. The general consensus on OzB is that Officeworks does everything in its power to avoid price matching bargains.

And yeah the display is only 1920x1080 and probably not as vibrant as the Mac but you get more ram, storage and i7 processor, but I guess that doesn't really matter if you prefer the Mac ecosystem.
