[Switch] Starlink: Battle for Atlas Standard Edition $37.18 (Was $119.95) @ Nintendo eShop

390

Price drop on the Nintendo eStore for both standard edition and deluxe edition ($74.97). This is the cheapest price for the digital version of the game so far with a one time previous nintendo discount of $59.97 back in December.

Mixed feelings on if it is worth spending the money on the deluxe edition and getting all the available content compared to standard edition. A lot of streamers and reviews have said they did not swap ships or weapons out that much and kept the Nintendo exclusive Arwing and Fox Mcloud throughout the majority of the game.

.
Game Description:

"Sale ends at 23:59 on 3/13."

    • Cheers mate updated.

  • is deluxe worth double the cost?

    • +2

      definitely not! maybe $10-15 more

      • so hold off and wait for that to happen? Prob not going to be the last time it will be on sale

        • Deluxe was US$39.99 on the US eshop over Christmas time, so there is every chance we might get a deal here in the future.

        • +2

Personally I wouldn't bother holding off for the deluxe, its not really worth it

    • Honestly, it's not that much extra to go deluxe. Waiting forever is going to save you, say, $10.

      But is it necessary? No.

-Starter pack lets you do almost everything.
-One extra ship (=extra life) is nice as occasionally you do get a couple of cheap deaths in a row.
-Gravity weapon will allow you to unlock a few upgrades from shrines. It's kind of nice that gravity missiles enables a few more weapon combos but not a big deal.
-Levitation weapon will allow you to unlock a few upgrades from shrines.
-Two of the pilots will allow you to unlock a series of extra upgrades of your base, but by the time you've levelled those pilots the upgrades are useless anyway.
-Each pilot when you get them to a certain level has a perk that benefits all pilots.
-Each pilot has a different special attack & skills but there's no way of guessing which pilot you'll enjoy using more. I kinda liked Shade but I suspect that might just be me.

The actual effect of most of this is no big deal - you're already overpowered enough that it doesn't matter on normal difficulty.

I went physical starter + nadir ship pack (on a big discount) then sold it for what I paid for it via gumtree - $63. It did not sell as quickly as I thought it would.

With what I bought the end game is enough to level 2 pilots. It's a fun game but short, the post-game doesn't have much of interest to make you bother grinding. If you have the deluxe you can level much faster by using a wider variety of weapons.

I got the physical starter kit and those weapons got very boring by the end, go with standard digital for far more content & not having to deal with leftover toys after finishing

This game was surprisingly great, especially on Switch if you’re a Star Fox fan. New Star Fox free DLC on the way too so now is a good time to buy. The physical edition was $44 on Amazon AU last week for anyone wanting the Arwing and Fox McLeod models.

I want the ship…but I don't want to play the game with it…

      • Buy physical and sell the game for almost what you paid for the bundle?

        • Can you play the physical version without the toys? I thought this was not possible since you don't have the keys.

          • +2

@zorrt: The stuff in the starter pack, yes. It never asked me to re-connect the standard items.

It did ask me to reconnect Nadir, Shade, Gravity missiles that I purchased in a ship pack.

TBH you might as well play it while you've got it, a week of solid play and you'll be finished.

This could be worth it. Especially with the DLC update coming in April adding all the Starfox characters

  • Are there more Ubisoft games on sale? Dunno how to access eshop outside of the switch….meant to be a sale on for Ubisoft.

  • +1

Very tempting, but I think it's gonna be the first of many sales. I've played enough Disney Infinity 2 to know where this goes.

    • I would say yes it will go on sale again but don't think it will get much cheaper than this as a major title.

      • +1

The toy games ALWAYS end up getting cleared.

And Ubisoft's other "major title" on Switch, Mario + Rabbids, has been around 25 countless times new.

And every other Ubisoft game, Far Cry, Rayman, South Park, Division, and so on, end up being super cheap too.

        I'll try my luck.

  • Just watched a few Youtube reviews on this and it seems like a clear winner for the Switch, I've got a scratch to itch for a "No Man's Sky" with a solid story.
Going to grab this now - thanks! :)

    • +1

Bought it and I'm really enjoying it. Really has that No Man Sky feel to it but with more depth ( mind you I know they have don a lot to NMS since the single day i played it when it launch). Never played Star Fox but if you are a fan then you basically seem to get a sneaky StarFox game in this ( characters included and have own story line in SF universe from what I can tell).

      • 100% agree with you. :) I ended up playing the game for over 4 hours straight the same day of purchase!
I still enjoy No Man's Sky and it's progression but this game fills the void I've wanted for a deep story in a free roam space exploration, which is really satisfying with it's RPG mechanics!
I never played any of the Star Fox games either and this is a blast.

  • Does anyone know how this works if you don't want to buy the toys? Can you still unlock new weapons and parts in game or is it all Microtransactions or Buying the Physical toys?

    • No in-game unlocks, but you can buy digital and mix with physical

      • There was some odd limitation though, I think to play the digital I had to remove the physical ship from the joycons and switch over to entirely digital. So with the Switch version that came with some digital content with the toy pack it was a bit messing about, unless you went all out digital and never used the toy. Or something like that, took it back for refund and swapped over to digital only in the end.
