Lenovo X260 SSD - Is There a Size Limit?

Hello guys,

I am planning to upgrade a lenovo x260 laptop to ideally a 1tb SSD.

I have upgraded a few laptops/desktops before and the lenovo SSD isn't difficult to access. I was also looking to see if there were any compatibility issues with certain drive types and read that x260 maybe limited to 500gb maximum ssd size. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Lenov…

Does anyone here have a x260 which they have upgraded?

Thanks
O

in the post you link a user states they upgraded to a Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD - CT1000MX500SSD1(Z)

other brands didn't seem to happen.

    buy a crucial SSD.

    • i think the 500gb worked but not 1tb

Got one of these: Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD - CT1000MX500SSD1(Z)

And Windows setup can't partition it (at least it errors this time, does not just freeze)

      EDIT:
Sorry re read and see what you are referring to.
      Might try an Sandisk crucial

I've got a T460s with a 1TB SSD in it from Lenovo. I've used and supported ThinkPad's for over 15 years and I've never heard of or seen a storage limit on any. What I've found is more if the drive will fit in the hard drive slot. At some point Lenovo swapped to only slime line hard drives for 2.5". RAM 100% there's a limit. I find Kingston's memory search is a very handy tool for finding what the options are for RAM and hard drives in Thinkpad's with the part numbers for Kingston products. Thinkpads use Kingston RAM from the factory. Kingston is saying the largest of their hard drives for the X260 is 1920GB.

With regards to this, I am not 100% sure. That forum thread has users upgrading to Crucial SSDs without any problems. I don't have any experience upgrading a thinkpad, but I know the Thinkpad subreddit can help.
