Drive NZ Rental Car - Any Good?

Hi all,

4 of us are going to Auckland for a few days and I was researching for car rental.

Come across Drive NZ Rental Car, it is very good priced and have 24hr Airport transport + Roadside Assistance.

Does any one have past experience or heard anything about his company?

Any help would be very much appreciated :)

No direct experience, except that this one appears to be one of the many that are situated away from the airport itself. I've used a few of those, and there is usually a delay in their shuttle bus picking you up, and the same on the return.
My last experience was mid-last year, and there were a lot of roadworks around the airport that caused lots of additional traffic delays as well.

  • Is there any one thats at the actual airport that you would recommend then?

    • These are within the airport: Avis, Budget Rental Car, Europcar, Hertz, and Thrifty.

I've probably used all of them on different trips and have not had any issues with any. I've found all their staff to be friendly, and have never been hassled about additional insurance cover or supposed 'damage' on returning the cars.
Only a short walk ( <5 minutes) to the car park.

The only thing to consider is what their fuel refill rates are, versus local fuel outlets (there are a couple nearby). I never take the 'return empty' option.

Note: I use an accumulator (VroomVroomVroom or similar) to find the best deal for my dates, and either book through there or direct.

    dont use europcar

  • I haven't had experience with them but have used Hertz when I was there.

  • We use Ace, last time we were there we picked up at the Airport and dropped back to Auckland City, they kindly dropped us down to our ship on a Saturday morning, great friendly service :) they have a few different options for hiring as well, bangers to BMWs…we bought a Vodafone Visitors sim and used our phone for GPS instead of hiring one at $10 a day…will use them again in November :)

  • I have used rental companies few times in NZ, can't remember their names, they all the same. Just make sure check the car before you pick up, and to have proper insurance.

  • Don't forget tripcover excess fee insurance

  • I used Jucy Car Rentals. I was nervous using a smaller company than the big 4. While there cars have lots of KMs on clock, they were in good condition, were cheap and allowed me to collect after closing time. This allowed me to start my travel early next day at no extra cost. Would highly recommend you consider them.
