Unusual New Subaru Delivery Delay

Hi, I ordered a new XV on 1st of February. The sales said they should have the car in 2 -3 weeks.

But until now they still don't know what happened with the car. They just know it was arrived at the port 3 weeks ago. They asked me to contact Subaru directly. They told me the car was delayed because they need to fit a counter measure before releasing. It will take another 2 -3 weeks . And they just simply ignore me when I ask if there something wrong with the car since it take so long to fit "counter measure".

I just want to ask if this happened to anyone? I am really disappointed with the way Subaru treats new buyer.

Cancel, get your deposit back and buy at a different dealer?

    • Contract may not say 2-3 weeks.

Last time when I brought my new car, the dealer said 2 weeks and they put in a date 2 months later and I ask why , they said it is normal practice.

Then you don’t sign and you renegotiate the contract.

If they say “2 weeks” and write “2 months”, you need to find out why and to not accept “2 months” if they told you “2 weeks”. Car salesmen are the biggest bullshitters on the planet (except you @spackbace 💕) and are just covering their arse. If they “say” 2 weeks, hold them to it. If they then change their story to 2 months, it’s time to negotiate a better deal.

"Counter measure" did you opt for the trunk monkey

    • Well worth the wait for a Trunk Monkey

      • I had to rewatch the ads after that lol

        • Hahaha me too.

    ok

    Airbag issue maybe?
Id rather wait the extra time and get a proper working car than have to deal with issue later but it would be good if they clarified the issue.

Tell them not to worry about installing it, because you'll measure your own counter. Problem solved.

  • Walk in to the dealership you purchased it from, ask them what the delay is for and to please explain what this counter measure. If it is a Takada airbag change, well that's just unfortunate, but necessary.

It wouldn’t be a Takata airbag if it’s a brand new car.

True OzB spirit… shop around till you get the answers you like… Any money this is also posted on some of the Aus Subaru forums as well…

    • He literally copied and pasted …

      • Not plagiarism if it's op own words, or are they?:)

        • I didn’t say it was. But it’s lazy; he couldn’t be bothered editing out his Whirlpool username and quip …

    • Are you bill stickers?

A counter measure? What? Like EMP, flares or chaff. Is this a fighter jet or a car you bought?

    • nuke it from orbit. it's the only way to be safe.

"counter measure" Did you get any 007 options?

Car is damaged, or car is under recall.

Or car was a factory order, and salesman lied and said it will arrive sooner.

Either way, unless you can actually type out what the problem is and explain it, we can't give you accurate responses and tell you what to do next.

  • In the USA crosstrek Forum there's a guy that ordered his xv and is also waiting for a long time. Something about steering column parts needing replacing.

    Maybe that applies here too.
Kinda like a recall but doing it before delivery maybe.

If the car is not in stock, it will just take time. Your contract will say when you can cancel.

I ordered a new xv on 1st of Feb

They asked me the contact Subaru directly.

My condolences, thats not how it works.

And they just simply ignore me when I ask if there something wrong with the car since it take so long to fit " counter measure"

I would ask what this is. Sounds like its code for it was damaged.

I am really disappointed with the way Subaru treats new buyer.

To be fair, its not Subaru, its your dealer.

Cancel the order and buy elsewhere.

  • Volkswagen had environmental testing counter measures.

Probably due to the brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) issues they've been having on vehicle carriers the last few months. I'm an importer and had a 6 week delay because the ship and a few cars weren't properly fumigated and they then multiplied during the course of the journey and attempts to fumigate at the receiving port weren't successful. They've worked out most of the issues since then so likely they've been cleared to enter but with fumigation before entry which is probably what the "counter-measure" is.

    • +1

Ah yes we had 2 of those ships affected

  • They asked me the contact Subaru directly

what did Subaru say when you contacted them directly?

    • They told me the car was delayed because they need to fit a counter measure before releasing.

      It’s kinda in the the post… :P

      • ok, well, OP has their answer then.

ooohhh, is this ONE OF THOSE POSTS where someone bombards social media and miracles happen?

        • Just shopping for the right answer… :D

          • @pegaxs: OP ~ you deserve a free car…..yeah?
