It might look and feel like a watch but it is about twice the size..
Fantastic as a health tool but as for just being a watch…much better to pay a visit to your local jewelry store.

The ability to change the watch face, watch band and charge the battery, makes it fairly versatile compared to your local jewelry store variety.

    • It might look and feel like a watch but it is about twice the size..

Hmm you must only wear pretty small watches. I don't find it too large. I suppose it's personal preference. Also depends on the size of your wrist.

but as for just being a watch

I think you're missing the point of a smartwatch. No one buys it just to be able to tell time - they could just use a watch. Notifications are probably the biggest use, and being able to answer the phone on your wrist is quite handy when your phone isn't nearby or your hands are dirty.

      • I have this watch. I wouldn't pay more than $49 sharp.

        • Then smartwatches definitely aren't for you. Not all products suit everybody's needs, nor do they have to.

@eug: Oh really? Thanks, I have a few watches. This is the least accurate in terms of tracking your activities. Your heart beats, steps, GPS, barometer and altitude. Lowest screen resolution, thus ugly watch faces. Ugly design and definitely low quality/quantity apps available compared to Apple and Android Wear. Oh and battery life.
It came to the point that I only use this to check time and as my digital wallet.

Guess you know nothing about smart watches but thanks

@[Deactivated]: Eug seems to always try and portray themself as an individual who knows everything and is always right. It’s quite sad really.

You need to read my reply in context. pal gave a single-line response saying he would only pay $49 for the watch, which means he does not see the usefulness of any of the watch's features - notifications, answering calls, music control, camera remote etc.

That implies that pal does not utilize any of those standard smartwatch features, hence smartwatches are not for him.

Had he actually explained why, like he did in his reply, then it would have been a different story.

And no, I'm not always right. I've been wrong many times. What I look for in comments is a more balanced viewpoint. Sometimes people make statements on an item based solely on their experience alone, forgetting that different people have different requirements. What doesn't work at all for one person might work really well for someone else. That would be when I might say something if I'm familiar with the item.

              Oh really?

Based on your two sentences, yes. But…

This is the least accurate in terms of tracking your activities.

What are you comparing it to?

Also, you should have mentioned that in your original post. You merely said you wouldn't pay more than $49 for this watch which implies you don't think it's worth more than $49, period. Seeing that Samsung has sold millions of smartwatches, from your one-line statement, it seemed more like you did not appreciate the utility of a smartwatch and only see it as a timepiece.

Your heart beats, steps, GPS, barometer and altitude.

It sounds like a fitness tracker is what you want.

Lowest screen resolution, thus ugly watch faces.

That's very subjective. Plenty of people find 278ppi absolutely fine - just read all the reviews on the watch.

              Ugly design

OK, but design is subjective too. You think it's ugly, lots of people think it looks great. I don't like rectangular rounded watches, but many, many people like the Apple watch.

definitely low quality/quantity apps available compared to Apple and Android Wear.

Yes that's for sure. But they still sold millions of them so I assume notifications is mostly what people use theirs for.

              Oh and battery life.

It seems to last just as long if not longer than any Android Wear or Apple watch. What battery life did you get?
It certainly lasts longer than any of my previous Android Wear watches.

  • AU JB Hi-Fi so much better than NZ stores.

  • Is this the cheapest it has been?

    • It's been $239 from TTG & Bing Lee during the ebay sales.

      • TTG1 or TGG

        1. If so, please expand

        • TGG

  • How is this a bargain if it’s more expensive? (Albeit a dollar)

Good for those who wants to clear out their JB HIFI giftcards

  • When i got JB to price match HN with 5% OW price beat, he checked their store stock and was surprised to see they had 90 in stock, makes you wonder what they might do.. will it become an email special code price..

While i know marketing ploys, it still annoys me the blurb that is used for stating memory size for music..

    Direct Excerpt..
Keep your workouts going, your trip jazzed up. The Gear S3 has 4GB of internal memory so you can take your music with you without the weight of your phone.

With No asterix or other indicator that it is total memory, not useable, which on mine is 1.6gb, they could state with 1.6gb useable memory etc..

Well the JB site doesnt but at least the samsung site does staye 1.64

    • I still hate it only has 4gb, while apple watch gen 1 has 8gb

  • Yes, that is more the point… no reason why this couldn't have come out with 8gb originally.

Im on track for 2 days out of the battery.. considering its the first charge, been toyed with a lot due to being new while i learn its features etc, i think thats pretty good.

@Austaurean - I turned the wifi option off and battery went up to 3 days - if you don't need it, 50% battery bump in my experience.

      • Thats great! n thanks, might give that a go

  • If JB run out of stock, you can also pick one up at Officeworks for $268.00

  • Liking mine but somewhat peeved it can't do swimming. Should've done my research
