I Need Help Finding The Ultimate Reliable Pen for Work That Never Stops Working

I feel like a moron for seeking assistance with this task, but hey - someone else here probably went through the same situation and hopefully might have a good suggestion.

I'm sick of ball points that just stop in the middle of writing, my role requires a good reliable pen, one for people to write down heaps of crap on more than likely crappy paper.

I don't care if its a 20 pack at officeworks or a fancy parker pen… its just got to be totally dependable and reliable.

I'm sick of trying to scribble in the corner of the paper to get a crappy pen to work - no no no… looks amateur hour in front of the client.

Thank you!

Fisher space pen is probably your best bet.

Yes. There's two types of refills, and I think these refills come with an adaptor for the other type. I just bought the refills off ebay and put them in oversized (but comfortable) giveaway pens. They're great.

I had 2 of the bullet pens & 3x refills, eventually all had trouble writing and then started leaking. They were great up to that point, but in the end their ultimate reliability wasn't any better than a Uniball.

Did you try contacting Fisher about the pens?

    fountain pens

These are my favourite pens. They don't last as long as others but the ink comes out 100% consistently, and thickly, so you don't get sections with just scratch marks. Just a lovely even amount of ink. And enough ink that the end of the pen glides smoothly along the paper. And they write beautifully until they run out of ink then they just stop. None of this half-working, stuttering for ages towards the end of life. They just work and work and work beautifully then drop dead.

Fountain pens are lovely to own and write with but they need a little maintenance and you need to hold them at the right angle to get them to write instead of scratch, so probably better to get a normal pen if you want to be able to just grab it and start writing.

Amateur hour in front of a client is touching the pen to your tongue and having a blue mark for the rest of the conversation.

pilot acroball, uses a hybrid gel/oil ink. always smooth writing. my sister who is a nurse swears by it, and she writes a lot. she goes crazy when her pen goes missing

The Fisher Space Pen was what they used in space missions. Pressurised ink always flows. Can write in water or in vacuum.

Only $70 each. I hope your clients are worth it.

Chaper at Amazon especially if you have Prime and buy two.

It'll be handy for those pesky underwater meetings!

    Pencil?

Pilot Juice Up 0.4mm is my go to now. Super smooth, never skips or sort of stutters across the page. It is important not to abuse the tips though for any pen to last.

Uniball jetstream is very reliable and has a good feel to write with. You can buy pens for ~$5 each or refills for ~$2.
I would recommend buying Unimball jestream alpha-gel for $20 and then getting refills as needed. The jetstream ink is smooth and reliable and alpha gel feels great to write with!

These pens are my go to. Love the Uniball Jetstream.

You can't go wrong with either the uni jetstream or the uniball : cheap, good flow and reliable. Just keep them away from your clothes.

I left my uniball in my lab pocket and it bled all over my favourite personalised lab coat and seeped through my shirt, while I was giving a lecture. How's that for amateur hour ? :(

Faber Castell Grip 2011 XB series. I have a lot of very expensive and very nice pens and my favourite to date is this pen. It's light weight, comfortable and easy to write with and is inexpensive. The click action is super nice and reliable. It gets abused in a dusty environment and handed to couriers and customers, writes on oily paperwork. I would buy another one, but this one just won't give up.

      Where do you buy them?

I bought mine last time I was in Malaysia, but you can get them on eBay without much problem.

MUJI pens. My husband introduced them to me, I use the 0.5 black. Japanese simplicity which writes beautifully, every time. I've had expensive parker refills etc and they don't even compare to these pens, I've been incredibly impressed. Link

  • I'm very appreciative to all the suggestions - thank you everyone.

I'll begin by purchasing what I can locally from the suggestions from officeworks Monday, then if they suck, I'll buy the ones online.

I'll even post results / success story reports.

  • Caran d'Ache 888. Swiss mechanism, Swiss ballpoint, Swiss ink. Brilliant.
    Officeworks for $10

  • So after spending like $40~ on stationary I've got a good one at the moment - Uni PowerTank: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/uni-powert…

    Uni-Ball's sucked.

    Pentel sucked more.

I almost started using fine liners but as of right now, the PowerTank is going good.

    Thanks and goodnight.
