[NSW] Closing down Sale - up to 80% off RRP for All Stock @ Good Games, Epping

160

Was surprised this wasn't here already. The sale (and store) was meant to end today, but they've decided to extend it a week (I was told this in store, I'm sure they'll get around to mentioning this on their Facebook page at some point tomorrow).

At the moment most of the stuff I checked was about maybe 10% below the price online elsewhere, some of it about the same. I'd hope the discounts will increase towards the end though.

Some highlights off the top of my head are:

Munchkin games at $20 or less
Magic the Gathering Adaptive Enchantment & Natures Vengeance Commander Decks. $45
Coup : Rebellion under $25

The store has 3 rooms, the front room is 25% off, The right room and the back room are up to 80% off (I don't think i noticed anything quite that discounted). The exact discounts for each item aren't displayed anywhere though, so for you have to ask the guy at the counter who seems to be arbitrarily applying whatever discount he feels like at least some of the time. Also Epping was the place where good games would dump all their old stock and brand it as "factory outlet" and this consists of the bulk of 80% off areas, that stuff had already been heavily discounted for sometime beforehand.

TLDR; temper expectations.

See store website

EDIT: In Store only

Do they have Snakes & Ladders?

I didn't notice if they did.

      • Sometimes you need to slide down a snake for the correct ladder to show itself as an opportunity.

Another nail in the coffin for local stores.

Online shopping will be the death of Australian retailers ……….

Supporting overseas job growth and economy.

    • That's pretty much the case everywhere.

High rents have played a hand.

My understanding is the building is being knocked down.

        • +10

You'd think that would make the rent cheaper…

You mean that we are now not getting ripped off by people overcharging?

      Unless you go local online

Eh, I've seen good games do a lot of shitty things so my sympathy here is limited.

The vague hand-wavey discount system here is not helping my opinion either.

Good games have 30 stores in Aus tho and their Burwood store just upgraded location from a 2nd floor den to ground floor prime real estate.

They also have the lion's share of hosting MTG organised play.

Seems like this closure is for operational reasons only.

Wouldn't think so. Would say we have a lot more retail board game stores than we had 5 years ago.

  • Epping, wow.. remember old schoold days

  • Would it be worth getting someone to buy stuff for me and getting it sent to vic?

    • +1

Unlikely. Posting board games is expensive unless they fit into a prepaid aus post satchel. If these discounts aren't wonderful then the satchel cost will kill it anyway. I wouldn't put your friend through the hassle to save a few dollars

  • DAMN! I was hoping it was Brisbane, then I could go punch the owner in the face!

Great deal description by the OP. Thanks for taking the time to write that up in a helpful way :)

  • could anyone who has a chance to go in perhaps take some photos of what they actually do have. This could be very useful to many people here but i have the feeling that anything thats highly desirable wont be discounted and perhaps just shifted to another store.

Is this actually a thing? They've looked like they've been closing down for years, and the "up to 80% off up the back" thing has always been there?

    • So there's a sign in the store that says "final day of trading 5/3/19" and I was in there yesterday (i.e. 6/3) arvo and it looks the same as it ever did. The shelves were still full and other than the "For lease" sign in the window, there was nothing else to show that they were about to close up. The signs up the front say 25% off and the sign up the back says "Up to 60% off". They'll probably going to keep going 'til the landlord finds a new tenant.

Someone asked and the guy said that they're definitely closing the store but the staff are being redeployed to other stores.

      Couldn't find any bargains.

Most popular titles 25% off (as op mentioned around the same as online prices).

Picked up Medieval Academy and Dice Stars, $15 each.

  • Last day tomorrow.
