How to Quickly Search OzBargain from Chrome Browser Search Bar

Hey everyone! Just came across this great shortcut/hack, and thought I'd share. Hope this is the right sub.

The shortcut lets you search ozbargain for an item using the chrome address bar by setting up a search engine shortcut.
Currently, all I have to do is type 'oz' in to the chrome address bar, press tab, and then type or copy+paste whatever I'm looking for.
Bang! up come the results!

To set this up, go to Chrome settings > under 'search engine', click 'manage search engines' > click 'Add'

Next bit is to input the following:
Name: [whatever you want, I wrote 'Ozbargain deal search']
keyword: [this is the shortcut, I used oz]
URL: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/%s?t=b [note that %s will automatically be replaced by whatever your search query is. The =b at the end is for the 'deals' node, and will only show deals!!]

Enjoy! This can obviously be modified for use with any website.

Works for chrome, probably firefox too. Not sure about other browsers!

  • Good find, I'll be using this.

  • Great tip,
    Thanks OP.

    from the Lifehacker link;

Firefox users just need to create a bookmark with the necessary name, URL, and keyword, and it'll work like a custom search engine when you type that keyword into your browser.

Isn't there already a search box in the top right hand corner of the site?

      That would be to easy

This is a search from your address bar, i.e you don't have to already be on ozb to search!

Quick shortcut for people too lazy to craft their own custom search. Click once on the name to install. Confirm the addition and the new engine will appear in the search bar shortly.
