From March 25, domestic travellers can bring on board a cabin bag weighing up to 10kg and a second bag weighing up to 4kg.

Currently, Qantas domestic passengers can board with two bags, both with a limit of 7kg.

The total cabin baggage weight limit will still be 14kg per person, with the rule change essentially allowing one bag to be heavier than the second.

There's no change in the total, just the configuration..

  • Quantum transportation, the future is now.

    And another important statement:
"The physical size limits on cabin bags will remain the same…"

    • Easy enough, generally any case meeting the QF dimensions for carry-on will easily take 10kg.

Dang I thought Qantas is finally increasing the number of young flight attendants who understand the value of customer service.

They can leave the number, but decrease the age:) I have a feeling that even 50% reduction in their age would not be enough.

They also need to increase INTERNATIONAL flights too..

Last year it was 23kgsx2 bags=46kgs per person… now its 30kgs sigh… where is the big uproar on these changes?

    • I don't think Qantas has ever had 23 Kg x 2 for Economy. With exception for USA routes where its always been 23 x 2

      • Looks like starlight flew to the US, then next trip was somewhere else. Easy to get confused with the two different baggage allowances.

“If passengers do not believe that they can lift the 10kg bag themselves, they will need to check it in at the airport before boarding. Flight Attendants Association of Australia (FAAA) president, Teri O'Toole said that the new rule will protect flight attendants from injury.“

Pretty fair to be honest. I feel bad for the FAs trying to lift heavy bags into the overhead. So essentially If you can’t lift it, don’t bring it. Flight attendants won’t help you anymore.

    • The real carry-on weight limit has always been how much you can pysicially lift into the overhead without showing signs of strain.
