Porting Problem to Belong Mobile

I got a mobile SIM pack and tried to port my number from Kogan Prepaid. After entering details and receiving the security code it asks for the SIM number but after clicking next it says "Oops an error has occurred, try again later". I tried multiple times, each time the same error.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the problem?

Nothing you can do but contact chat. They are painfully slow, but they eventually get it ported.

    • I tried that (although it says for NBN only, not mobile) and they never answered. The porting process never gets started because their system gives an error after the SIM number is entered. If I choose the new number option it does carry on properly and asks for payment details. It doesn't get that far if I choose to keep my number.

  • Check your email address hasnt already been used. Most of the time its up to your details entered.

  • What did Belong Mobile say when you told them about this?

    • Probably will be the end of next week before you get hold of them.

      • Well they are cheaper than Telstra for a reason.

  • It's a common message on the Belong website. I see it (or something like it?) once a month or so just trying to view my account information. When I first saw it, I Googled and others had mentioned it too.

My guess is it's some sort of server load issue.

Just ignore it and try again in a few hours or the next day. Assuming it's the same thing, it's frustrating, but it goes away eventually.

I thought that too but I've tried on multiple days, and after midnight too but no luck still. If I hadn't bought their Starter Kit I would have given up by now.

      • Understood. Yep, definitely sounds like something different then.

Long shot - and you've probably already tried this also - but I'll mention it just in case. Have you entered the SIM number without the spaces between the numbers? (Or maybe it was the final letter that needed to be left off. Or something else like that. Maybe just try all the combinations. It's been a while, but I vaguely recall the site being fussy and not giving good error messages. I might be getting it mixed up with another service provider.)

        All the best.

        • Thanks for your reply but the problem is not the SIM number. If I choose the new phone number option then the application proceeds without error, but if I choose to port my existing phone number then it accepts the SIM number but then gives an error and won't proceed to the next step.

  • I've got a friend who has been with Belong for 5 months and still hasn't got internet access. Sim works for phone, SMS- no data. If a sim works for phone and SMS it can't be a faulty sim can it? So the problem must be at Belong, right?

  • From memory I think my adblockers and pihole caused similar problems for me, I disabled them and it worked OK

  • I had the same experience. Contacted them, they were useless. I just bought a Kogan voucher and went with them, so much better. Before I went with Kogan, I thought it was amass I’m being sht about me leaving, so I tried one of my spare Telstra sims, i ported to Telstra instantly. So I dunno what is wrong with belong, but just went with Kogan.
