Buying Pup On Gumtree

hey guys. first time using gumtree. i'm looking to purchase a rottweiler pup and have made contact with a few people. i'm pretty sure there's no way for me to meet up with them as i don't have a mode of transport. they've suggested i use one of the pet transport services online that can come pick the pup up, bring it to the airport, fly it out to where i am and deliver it. they all seem to only accept bank transfer. after looking online it seems everybody says that's a red flag and it usually doesn't end well. i've come across one bloke who said he uses paypal but i'm not sure if that's any better. seeing as transferring money is my only option i'm not sure what to do.

let's just say if i do end up transferring money, they decide to not send the pup, is there anything i can do about that? any legal action i can take?

I bought my kitten (now a cat) off gumtree, was very dodgy, ended up buying the cat just because I was uncomfortable with him staying with his "owner".

Cat is now awesome with me :)

That's all I have to add to this conversation.

Please do not support breeders. There are so many dogs in shelters needing homes, more than there are people to adopt them.

  • I bet OP is an Asian student who is only going to be here for another 4-5 years or so.

    • nothing in the post to suggest that without racist-tinted glasses

      being a dick is universal

  • I bought my boy off gumtree. He was an accident from two farm dogs. He's a cross Border Collie and kelpie. He was the runt of the litter, but I'd say he was definitely the smartest!

7 years no issues with him.

Mines a positive puppy off gumtree story. To be fair they weren't breeders, just farm owners. Their kids were sad to let the puppies go.

    Best $250 I ever spent.

Rescue only.. hugging my big pooch now

  • Yeah just buy it interstate, send them money via bank transfer.
    You’ll be fine.

  • See before you buy, A lot of them are scams, my friend has a rare Tibetan breed, and people keep stealing her Instagram photos and use it on gumtree to sell.

We keep reporting them but what can you do if they just keep re-posting.

Also went to the po po already.

  • Trace the money transfer!

I had an experience where a GumTree ad for 2 pups listed for sale had a money transfer via Western Union only. With some digging it was in Egypt. I would always meet up with them first or ask for something that proves they are in a actual person in Australia. Other than that I would recommend just going into a pet shelter. Plenty of pups that need a new home there.
