Please Recommend a Pram for an Active Mum

Hi there,

could someone please recommend a pram for an active mum who loves to go for long walks? I'm kind of leaning towards either the bugaboo fox or the jive2. Bub is due in September. No budget as such ; just want something reliable.

Cheers,
JJB

    No budget as such

    Then bugaboo it is.

    • Or the Baby Jogger range

      • The city select lux?

  • The good one

  • kmart $15.

    • Can you seriously buy a pram for $15 ?!

Oh, looks like the price went up $5

        • To think that I've paid way more for an umbrella than this stroller ..

  • Often free left behind at airports.

    • We got a free second-hand one for our youngest from my SIL. In fact, we got heaps of baby stuff from her as our little one's arrival ( and conception) was unexpected. Now that she's pregnant with her 2nd child , I would love to get her something nice to say thank you.

        give her a 3rd bub

      • Completely out of curiousity so no need to answer this if you don't want to, but while I can understand how conception can be unexpected, how do you miss 9 months of warning signs so that the arrival of a kid is unexpected?

Not the person you were asking, but my own mum didn't know she was pregnant with me until the last month. She had amenorrhea for years before becoming pregnant with me, so the most obvious warning sign was missing. She didn't gain much weight, and didn't have the obvious pregnant tummy. She only found out when she started having pains which she worried was appendicitis. She went to the doctor who told her she was pregnant.

          Unexpected conception

We had twins and then tried for 10 years and it didn't happen.

          Unexpected arrival

We didn't find out we were expecting until half-way through the pregnancy. My wife is very active ( yoga, swimming, boxing) and naturally slim and toned. She used to joke about what she called her food baby which was hardly visible until 'it' started moving. She also suffers from amenorrhea which is probably why we didn't clue on earlier.

The baby arrived earlier than expected too. He was healthy and didn't show any sign of being a preemie. He was an easy, happy baby. Very boob-obsessed until he discovered cheese. I'm pretty sure his first word was 'cheeese'. He turned 2 in February :)

            @[Deactivated]: Awwww congrats!!!

I'm not sure if that's more hilarious or terrifying (in a way)… and

I'm pretty sure his first word was 'cheeese'.

            Oh man that's adorable.

I had a mountain buggy. I loved it because you could steer it with one hand while holding a coffee in the other hand.

It had good suspension and I could fold it up fairly easily. I used it for all of my kids and when I was finished I handed it down to another mum who used it for her kids too. It was durable.

We have a Stokke Xplory. Very sturdy, not cheap, but the baby sits high in the pram and it folds out and back up again pretty quickly (takes a few times to get the hang of it).

Have you considered giving your SIL a voucher to one of the big baby stores? As long as it is of sufficient value, that would allow her to choose her own pram. There might be some specific features that are important to her in a pram (light enough for her to put in car, easy for her to fold, baby can face either direction etc).

Uppababy Vista is brilliant and has the option to go double if required in the future. And the basket is obscenely huge and useful compared to the Bugaboos and other expensive brand prams.

Baby jogger city mini gt is a good option, we bought ours on gumtree.

Reds baby is as good as most of the very expensive brands without being overpriced. You can get the air tires for better mobility if you're going to go for long walks as well.

  • Depends. What car do you have or will you be upgrading to suit?

    • A Porsche Macan and a mazda cx-5.

  • The bugaboo looks great for when you first have a baby.
With me once ours got older I scored a Bob Revolution Pro at auctions almost new for $12.10. Its an amazing pram and so easy to push around and chuck in the car. Great for shops or long walks on a bike path.
