Bluetooth Transmitter for TV Suggestion

I have a Samsung NU7100 series TV, which unfortunately does not have bluetooth.

I'm looking to get an transmitter to watch TV on my headphones. This is to not disturb others when they are working.

I am currently looking to get this Avantree Transmitter off Amazon, has anyone used this before and can comment on how reliable it is?

I have done a bit of reading and it looks like there could be a potential sound lag if I don't get a pair of headphones that is optimised for TV. Can anyone comment if it would work on my Sony 100xm3 and also the Apple Airpods?

Thank you!

  • I have done a bit of reading and it looks like there could be a potential sound lag if I don't get a pair of headphones that is optimised for TV.

I'm yet to hear of anyone successfully doing this, watching TV on BT headphones.

    • It can be done its whether its laggy. Also a good idea if TV has a powered USB for charging transmitter.

      • its whether its laggy

Well yeah that's what I meant

  • I got a BT transmitter for about $16 bucks off eBay. It does the job. Yes it’s a bit laggy, but I’m always doing something else while watching tv, so not really a concern for me.
Curios, does your tv have a headphone jack? Because you will need one.

    • Hmm, had a quick look behind the TV and looks like there isn't one. Do I need one for the one you have? Or would all type of transmitter require one?

      • The one I have requires headphone jack. The picture in the one you’re looking at is confusing. It says usb, rca, 3.5mm, optical, but I’m not sure if the usb is only for power (I’m not a tech head and the pic is unclear). Just make sure you don’t buy one that is 3.5mm jack only, if your tv doesn’t have one.
Alternatively, do you have an Xbox one? If you watch things on that, you can plug headphones into the controller and listen from there.

  • I have this different version http://www.avantree.com/category-bluetooth-speaker-adapter-2…

And it works well with 2 cheap bluetooth headsets (bluedio t3 plus)

    No audio lag at all.

Bought mine from amazon us. I think the one from your link is the newer version? And based on reviews looks great!

  • I am using this one

with bose qc35ii doing a great job. I am using it with an optical connection.
    you can try this one.
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Mpow-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Receive…
because it supports aptxHD as sony m3s are also supporting it. it has the latest chip csr8675 as well.

    • Cheers, would look into this as well. What do you mean by an optical connection?

The optical connection is sometimes called TOSLINK This youtube video shows what the connection and cable look like.

The advantage of the optical connection is that it doesn't turn of the speakers, unlike the standard headphone connector, so you don't have to unplug it every time you want to use the speakers.

AptX low latency is about as good as it gets with Bluetooth. Latency of 40ms is one frame of 25fps video.

Another option would be the wireless headphones that don't run off bluetooth. They've been around for ages. Can't quite comment on how good they are though. I've only ever seen them in use by someone else. I've never had the opportunity to listen to them myself.

  • I'm using Blitzwolf transmitter, mostly for gaming though, no noticeable lag.

    • Cheers, will look into this as well

  • Get a set top box or maybe a Vodafone tv or foxtel now box that has bluetooth

      Or Fetch TV

  • This brand is much better:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07D4L8PH1

I have one and recommend them to friends, it works with $20 headphones all the way up to $20,000. It can transmit to 2 pairs of headphones at once if you need to.

There's also an OzBargain rep and he might be able to give you a discount code if you ask.

  • I was researching this as well for some time and yesterday bought

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Bluetooth-5-0-Audio-Transmit…

I got 2 of these and plan to use them in paring mode (1 to transmit, other as receiver) and then use audio Y splitter cable and use any wired earphones/headphones.

The benefit with this one is that it supports dual bluetooth headsets, so I can easily upgrade to them later when a good deal on headset comes.
Its bluetooth 5.0 and quality looks to be good based on reviews
