Get Pixel 3 or Wait for Samsung Galaxy S10e Plan?

Currenty the samsung's plans are expensive. I remember pixel phones were going on for 59/69 for both pixel phones respectively with optus. Should i wait or pull the trigger? I am currently on month to month paying 45 and 35 for two sims with optus.

  • Pull it.

  • How much more expensive was the S9 over the Pixel? Couldn't be that much.

"You can do whatever you like" so I choose to ask!

I think the Samsung devices are better, technically, whilst they're released around 6-9 months earlier.

The only thing Pixel has over Galaxy is the Stock Software/UI, Faster and Longer Updates, Slightly better performance, Decent Autofocus Camera, and the front firing stereospeakers (XL variant).

However, the Pixels are priced equal to or higher than the Galaxy devices on release. And the Pixel devices don't go on special/bargain as often or as quick.

If I were you, I would wait for the Plus version, and get it around 2 months (May?) after release… that's when you'll get some contract-bargains (wait longer for decent price drops to buy it outright). Don't wait for the Pixels or the Note series.

And if you find the new Pixels are what you want, sell your Galaxy and do the side-grade in the same year.

    • Yeah not a bad idea. I think pixel devices are all about that camera processing app.

It's a very quirky device, because it comes from a group of quirky people (not nerds, but tryhards).
I'm saying this as a Nexus aficionado (and nerd).

        For instance the Pixel 3;
        - priced above direct competitors, and trying to follow iPhone's increasing prices
        - released 6-9 months after the competition
        - has a rear glass that is prone to scratching
        - lacked/suffers from some water resistance issues
        - suffers from some QC issues (despite making the phones in-house due to HTC purchase)
        - still suffers from software bugs (despite pioneering the Operating System)
        - skimps on storage space, despite not including a microSD slot
        - uses two loudspeakers to generate a mono-sound/not-stereo (only base Pixel 1/2/3, not XL models)
        - killed the 3.5mm headphone jack for no reason (besides "me too")
        - has a smaller battery than competition, despite being physically larger
        - implements a thick notch, despite making fun of other "notch companies"

…it certainly is NOT a developer or enthusiast orientated phone like the Nexus.
So then, why should a mainstream buyer choose this over other/better alternatives, it's not logical.

    • Decent Autofocus Camera

The camera apk might have been ported to other Samsung devices, including the night sight feature. Just tested it on S8 and it is pretty cool.

  • Samsung Galaxy unless you want a 'Top Notch' phone

  • When S9 came out Optus had S8 on $59 plan but there is no such deal for S9 while S10 is coming out.
