Gtechniq Paint Protection

Hey all,

I bought my car a few years ago from Mccarolls Volkswagen and bought Gtechniq paint protection with it for some aburd $1500. I have recently got bird shit on my car that scratched my paint so going to try for a warranty claim and i want to get a respray, but their website is useless? Do i need to contat the dealer where i purchase it from?

Anyone been successful in warranty claims?

  • Scratched the paint, or damaged the clear coat? I can't see how bird crap would scratch the clear coat, unless it was rubbed in.

But yes, contact the dealer you purchases the protection from.

  • Well the bird poo completely dried and I was trying vigorously to get it off which of course resulted in a million minor scratches (yes had no idea what I was doing) and now the bird poo area looks a matte colour rather than glossy, not sure how to add a photo

"How" were you "vigorously trying to get it off"? Were you rubbing it with a brush, microfibre cloth, pot scourer, etc? Was it dry or wet when you attempted to do this?

That would probably play a factor into whether or not they honour your paint protection warranty.

      • Wet and used a cloth wipe

        • Was the cloth wipe dirty before you used it? If it was wet, and you used a clean cloth wipe(assuming the cloth wasn't abrasive in any way), I don't see how it managed to scratch it up that bad unless the bird poo was dried rock hard and you rubbed that dried crap all over the paint….which now that I type it out sounds exactly like what you did…

What type of cloth wipe was it?

With dried bird poo, I usually spray quick detailer on it to assist in loosening it then wiping it off in minimal strokes with a microfibre cloth. That's if I can't high-pressure wash it off in the first place, but that's not common at all.

            @Kenb0:

            😂

    • This is gonna sound wack, but try leaving your car out in a hot sunny spot for 3 weeks. The heat from the sun might make the stain disappear. Worked for me.

Why do you think this lets you make a warranty claim…?

  • What does your Paint Protection plan say it covers and to do in case of a claim? Failing that, what did Mccarolls Volkswagen say?

Not sure intentional damage through your rubbing would be covered. That's not a manufactureres warranty issue. Especially if it's past the clear coat and needs a respray.

  • That’s the problem it doesn’t say anything just says details on warranty on website but no steps on how to claim. I’ll need to call the dealership I guess. Thought someone else might’ve used gtechniq.

    bought Gtechniq paint protection… $1500

    Hahaha

I was trying vigorously to get it off which of course resulted in a million minor scratches

    Hahaha

I want to get a respray

    Hahaha… make it stop!

There are so many threads on here about paint protection being snake oil. $1,500… good lord, they saw you coming. How old is the paint protection? What does the warranty booklet say? (Apart from telling you to not let bird shit eat into your paint) And there is no way they are respraying your car over some birds shit marks unless you took to it with a wire brush. It’s most likely in the clear coat and will buff out ok if it’s a new car.

Edit: Just read their terms and conditions and it just reads like pure snake oil should. Have to have it inspected (which incurs a fee) and reapplied every 12 months. Installing a DVD will void the warranty.

\2. This warranty does not cover… scratching, abrasions…
C1 Crystal Lacquer & Crystal Serum Light…. not warranted against… bird droppings or bat droppings.

Let’s hope it wasn’t one of those products.

Edit II: the gift that keeps on giving…

    Warranty excludes the following claims
\18. Any claim in respect of damage to the paintwork caused by stone chips, rust or corrosion (where the area of the vehicle has not been treated with Gtechniq Products), abnormal chemical fall out or spillage, petrol spillage, scratching, abrasion, fire, bird droppings, bat droppings

So, you basically bought $1,500 worth of dealer bullshit. :D

Dude, my chest hurts from laughing so hard. I snorted and woke the wife. Do people not read the terms and conditions before they hand over $1,500 for this shit.

From what I can basically tell from the T&Cs is that EVERYTHING is excluded and nothing is included. It reads like a running joke…

    • Harsh but needed.

      • It’s reality. There is thread upon thread here and a simple google search would have told OP the same thing about paint protection, especially from dealerships.

It’s actually a bit sad that OP was duped into buying this shit, because just one quick look over the terms and conditions of the paint protection, it’s basically worthless. It amounts to nothing short of a scam.

        • I agree with everything you said.

Yeah it's pretty much a known thing with any form of paint protection that you remove the bird shit as soon as possible.

And you sure as hell never scrub a dried up solid back n forth over your paint 😂

  • Yep gonna have to consult the touch up guys like I did last time hahah

  • When did the art of commom sense die?

    • When did the art of commom sense die?

      A while back unfortunately.

Common sense isn't that common any more, as OP's post testifies to.
