They won an award for the Columbia, then discontinued it and introduced the Peru….

    • .. so is that good or bad?

      • I'll be starting on Peru tomorrow morning.

        Anyone else tried it?

        • I actually liked it. Even better than Columbia IMHO.

Haven't tried Peru yet, but used to love the Colombia beans. Wonder why they were replaced?

the only thing that annoys me is no roast date printed on the pack

    • Perhaps ask them what the best before date means.

  • Decent to try and use single originfor espresso?

      Worth a shot (pun intended).

I was going to do a coffee pun but I got here too latte.

  • I've gone through a few bags of the Brazil ones now - I'm pretty happy with them (especially for the price)

Look how many people won awards,
    Gloria jeans, donut king etc
Pretty sure if you pay to enter you may win a trophy haha.
They do the same with the whisky, it won worlds best. Lol

    • Except this is an internationally recognised competition, not some industry trade show where only Aldi enters so they autowin BESTEST TOTALLY SCOTTISH WISKHEY.

  • Are these whole beans?

    • yes.

I like their dark roast. I actually liked it better than the publo & rusty that get posted here (I think I tried porter st). Trying their medium roast next.

    • I love the dark roast, the medium has a better taste (almost chocolately). I just struggle to get it strong enough for my taste.
Disclaimer, it’s more to do with my bean to cup delonghi.

  • The Columbia beans are decent. Still have half a bag left

These could be priced at $20-$25 and I'd still buy them as my preferred bean in that price range. They are really amazing for the price.

  • Who roasts these beans?

    • Veneziano, under contract.
They also roast for Coffee Club.

      • cheaper then Vittoria beans too - insane.

      • According to Aldi it looks like Black Bag Roasters. Part of the Nomad Coffee Group

        • +2

Yep, the parent company of Veneziano.
Since their sale to Nomad they've taken on contract roasting for many big brands.

They're roasting 50 tonnes a week in Richmond, with only a very small percentage of that being specialty (for their Veneziano brand) and the rest commodity for the likes of Aldi and Coffee Club.

  • lets be honest, what Aldi charge is all that coffee is worth…

Can't stand hipsters who spend $35 on 500g of some wanky brand who roasted them in some equally wanky way….

I've been hesitant to try ALDI beans again.

Before they had these single origin bags, I grabbed the dark roast to try, it was so bad I couldn't drink it (in the end mixed it in with my usual beans 10% at a time).

Guess I could have taken it back to swap it, but just assumed that's what you got for the price and didn't bother.

Worth giving these another chance though?

I use Braziliano Bar Classico at the moment, twice the price of these, but I know it's fresh, roasted within a few weeks when I get it.

I'm not sure how long the ALDI stuff sits around. The BB date is definitely more than a year, wondering if it's 2 years from roasting.

  • Not a fan of the Peru but the Brazil 🍆💦

    • dripping aubergine?

  • I have had about 3 bags of Brazil and 1 bag of Columbia. The Brazil is acceptable in terms of freshness but it's definitely been in the supply chain about 3-4 weeks from roasting as it's certainly not as fresh as mail order beans.
