Dash/ Driver Cams Front and Rear for Convertible

Hi all,
I have a convertible I wish to install a rear and front cam, possibly a reversing type also. However I sometimes park with the top down and want to know some suggestions for setups that can either be easily put into the glove box and locked or setup more securely in some manner.
I'm happy for any suggestions but I hate wires and will look to get an all in one or one I can connect to a double din in dash screen or other just seeing whats out there before I start the long road of self research on it.
Many thanks in advance if someone has a similar setup or suggestion of types ect. Pictures would be great if possible

Front camera easily unclips from the stick-on mount to lock in the glovebox.

    • Thanks abb, not a bad start tbh.

Also, reverse cam will operate differently to a dash cam. You'll need 2 separate cams at the back to suit the 2 purposes.

This seems an unnecessary redundancy to me. Though the fact that cars don't have dashcams built-in these days is also a little confusing. Are you aware of any indications car makers might start making dashcams an option in the future? (Honestly a lot cars already have all the necessary equipment, save for a way to loop-record and export the data).

Built-in? Unlikely until someone makes it the 'norm'. It's an extra charge, which means either your car sells for a higher price, or for a lower margin.

Toyota have a genuine dash-cam option now.

I get what you're saying and I'd love to see the same, but I feel we're years away from that being a factory fitted thing. Maybe look to BMW/Mercedes to see when they start introducing it as a standard feature, they seem to be the pioneers in their top range cars.

Oh yeah they do. I guess that at least opens up the option (or might lead to?) it being a factory fitted option in the future. Though I get what you mean about margins - the Genuine Toyota Dashcam is ~$500…

I can't imagine it would be expensive for new cars. Most new cars have a reversing camera, and a front-facing camera for the AEB system. My built-in GPS also has a memory card slot (or multiple USB's) , so I would think that most of the hardware is already in place.

It could actually be as simple as adding the right software into the entertainment system, and maybe an inertial / motion sensor.

      • My car is pretty old even though it's got stuff in it that was way ahead of it's years and still leaves 2019 cars wanting. I just see the amount of silly driving out there and every third forum post is a cruddy paint mock up of someone cutting a truck off and getting hit by a bike ect. Plus the cost is cheap enough to have an extra layer of protection out on the ever busier roads these days for which many years ago I would have wanted one of these devices installed. Redundant or not it's a consideration that at a pricepoint makes it worth considering, also that I'll be able to transfer the device to another vehicle in the future is pretty cool.

Yeah no doubt. No I meant the need to have separate cameras for reversing and reverse-dashcam seems redundant when, hardware-wise at least, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to use the one camera for both purposes.

Having a dashcam is definitely not redundant - especially considering how cheap you can get them and how set-up-and-forget they are.

@HighAndDry: lol except if I forget to lock in the glove box with the top down at the beach… yoink much.

    • Cheers for that forum, I like the sentiment they are going for there. But also lol, to those pics and setups. Seems I'm in weird territory for something that is merely a want. The above mentioned device seems to have 'Parking mode' whatever the hell that is and seemingly only uses the one camera albeit the rear one. Basically just want it to assist when I'm reversing but it's not overly necessary. Good starts

Not necessarily. Some (most?) of the dual-camera rigs give you the option to always display the rear camera's feed, which is probably sufficient.
