  • overpriced even at $66 considering the ingredients

Made with high quality, animal-based protein

foods containing corn, rice, wheat and "poultry protein" (sorry we can't tell you the exact source of our high quality animal based protein, poultry should suffice) have no business asking for over $5 per kilo even on special

OP do you honestly think the ingredients listed make the food a bargain at $5.05 per kilo, since this is not your first "budget" "deal"

    • Can you suggest a replacement brand the one advertised in this post?

      • +1

        take your pick
        Meals for Mutts
        Ivory Coat
        Stay loyal
        Taste of the wild
        Blackhawk etc
I usually buy on special when it costs less

you may pay slightly more, but you get better ingredients

Avoid: royal canin, hills science diet, Eukanuba etc which are overpriced for the ingredients they provide

        • Been meaning to try Blackhawk.

    • +1

OP is simply taking the RRP of the product into consideration when posting. I don't think he worked out the price per kg of the ingredients on the back to see how much it would cost to produce at home….. Don't blame the OP for posting a 40% off deal. These products get used obviously as they are in business. May not be relevant for you but it is to some. How about we leave our egos at the door and reserve them for the forums rather than the deal posts?

      • @Caghan
in case you have missed my point, is food containing corn, wheat, and rice a bargain at $5 a kilo?
given the site is called ozbargain
You could buy this product seeing that it is 40% off, or you could take two minutes and read the ingredients and see if it is worth buying even at 40% off

Don't blame the OP for posting a 40% off deal

        see discussion here
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/440303

people post deals in good faith thinking they are bargains
If they are not bargains, what is wrong in calling a spade a spade?

Not a question of egos, just a matter of letting people know, that despite the colourful packaging, and the scientific spiel in bold, it is the ingredients (hidden somewhere in simple font in the back) that really matter, and not the brand or the advertising

this particular product would definitely be a bargain if it cost $32 for a 12 kilo bag

it is discussions on posts like these, that have helped me make better choices
If such discussions were restricted to the forums, I would probably still be feeding my mutt a rubbish food

        • Overpriced even at $66 considering the ingredients

That statement holds true as you are making a statement

OP do you honestly think the ingredients listed make the food a bargain at $5.05 per kilo, since this is not your first "budget" "deal"
          This does not.

          A bargain is defined as follows;
something that is on sale at a lower price than usual

Regardless of whats in the food, there is a usual price for this product whether its good or not, the bargain is the 40% off that particular product.

If a pack of ciggies that cost $30 were advertised for $15, regardless of how bad it is, you cant have a go at OP for thinking thats a bargain. After all, you could grow your own tobacco in your backyard for much less….. there's not a lot of logic to you having a go at OP for not seeing through the product ingredients.

            righty ho
so if a green grocer normally sells cucumbers for $40 a kilo
and he decided to pass off wilted cucumbers at $20 a kilo (50% off)
as per your definition that would be a bargain!
despite the fact that I could buy fresh cucumbers at $19 a kilo elsewhere?

And knowing full well that I could buy fresh cucumbers elsewhere at $19 per kilo, I should not be asking the green grocer if selling wilted cucumbers is a bargain, because I could grow cucumbers in my backyard for less

ok, you are absolutely right :)

        • Just want to make it clear that this isn't something I feed my dog nor would I let anyone feed it to their dogs. the product is absolute rubbish.

            please read the above benefits
how can it be rubbish when it is made with high quality animal protein and has 12 other listed benefits etc
plus it is a bargain at 40% off :)

            • @docians: Lol look we agree on the same thing it's not like we are polar opposites.

  • Is this suitable for a Labrador Retriever?

    • Eukanuba Labrador formula is similar except they have substituted rice with barley
If your lab would prefer barley instead of rice I would suggest no :)

      • come on man! it was supposed to be a joke :(

        • @Colombian, what was?

          • @docians: My question about being suitable for Labrador Retrievers was supposed to be a sarcasm. I find it very funny when big companies make us believe that some kind of kibble is indeed suitable for some cat/dog breeds.

            • @Colombian: I think the worst among the offenders are Royal Canin and Hills Science
              breed specific
but the ingredients tell a different story
and clever marketing to sell a cheap product at a dear price

    • we raised a lab we had on this crap and she had gut problems her whole life.

our 2nd lab we feed chicken frames, and she's healthy.

YMMV, sample size of 1 etc etc

      • we raised a lab we had on this crap and she had gut problems her whole life.

        .

It all started in 1969, when our founder, Paul Iams, was looking for a memorable word that echoed the uncompromising high level of his new dog food formula. With unmatched quality the market had never seen before, Paul wanted a name that was just as special.

He found inspiration in the world of jazz. In the 1940s, this unique music was evolving, as was its own unique language. EUKANUBA™ ("You-Ka-Noo-Bah") was one word that grew out of that culture. It was reserved for something that was "the tops" or "supreme"

At one time it was a good food. Now it is owned by Mars and it is Eukanuba in price and name only
