Need New Drives for Lacie Big 5

Hello I have a Lacie 10TB (5X2TB) 5Big Thunderbolt 2 Raid LAC9000510AS model. Think the drives are getting a little old and wanted to replace them…..

Can anyone recommend me a drive (at a good price) that would fit and work in this unit, sorry my computing knowledge is a little limited when it comes to Raid.

Thanks in advance.

Here's the compatibility list from their site…

Basically any large capacity 3.5" drive (edit: up to 8tb) should do the trick.

Not sure how you would migrate new drives in. If it's anything like a synology (and you've set it up as a raid solution) you should be able to replace a single drive with a larger one and wait for the rebuild (i.e. copying data around) to happen.

Rinse and repeat until all drives have been swapped over.

    • Thanks … Can I hot swap a new drive into any of the slots, or does it need to be a specific slot? and (2) does it need to be the same size of the other drives eg. 2gb again or can I actually put in a larger drive (up to 8gb)…?? (currently I have RAID5 at 5 x 2TB).

      • You should be able to swap with any slot.
In the end you are going to have to replace all of them anyway so it shouldn't matter which order you do it in.

Just make sure you have at least one backup already.

Perhaps buy a standalone 10tb drive to backup what you have then start the swap procedure.
Note it can take a day or two for each drive!
