20,000 Free Velocity Points on Virgin Flyer Credit Card

22

If you apply for a Virgin Flyer Credit Card by May 31 and spend $5000 within the first 3 months, Virgin Money is offering a bonus 20,000 Velocity points. This is on top of the usual "four free flights" offer, where four times a year you get 2 for 1 flights on Virgin Blue. Note that you still have to cover the credit card booking fees on the second flight.

Normally, the card also earns rewards at one Velocity point per dollar spent up to $1500 a month, however, after the first $1500 the earn rate reverts to a much lower 0.5 points per dollar, so those putting a lot of monthly spend on their card may be better off looking elsewhere.

The annual fee is $99. The interest rate on cash advances and purchases is 20.99% which is pretty high, though you do get 44 days interest-free on purchases. There's also a 2.9% balance transfer offer for 6 months.

The card also comes with travel accident insurance and a concierge service.

This offer an exclusive partnership with Mozo.com.au and not available on the Virgin Money site. For more general card info, check out http://virginmoney.com.au/credit-card/flyer-cards/

Pay $99 annual fee, must make $5000 spend to get 20,000 Velocity points.

Not worth it unless you think the free second flight makes up for it.

    • You also get the four free flights a year, meaning you could potentially get 6 flights in your first year and four every year after that, which isn't too shabby for a $99 annual fee.

      • Does the free flight offer apply to flights paid for using velocity points then?

You don't seem to be able to use your points to gain a free partner flight. I got one of these cards, and was a bit miffed when I worked out you only get a free flight when you purchase a Blue Saver fare. I always thought that was their cheapest fare, but I had forgotten about their 'Go' fares. My fault though. By the time their fares are quite high, you'd be as well sticking the regular discounted Jetstar fares for most flights…

I really dont think this is a good deal

    • why not - saying you don't like it without saying why doesn't really help much

well considering that QF was doing upto 7500 points and Zero card fee….

with a $300 dollar spend in the first three months of card activation….

I think these isnt a good deal compaired to that

Considering you have to spend $5000 to get the 20,000 points it's not enough to win me over. Worth it if you were thinking of taking out the card anyway for the 4 free flights offer, but otherwise the Citibank offer that was detailed on here recently with, I think, 60,000 points was more worthwhile.

    • Agreed, the Citibank & QF offers are better. Having a $5K spend minimum to get the reward is also more than a little much.
