Just Got a New Boost Sim Card, How Long Does It Take to Apply a Recharge?

Hey guys,

I just got a new boost sim card this afternoon.
I activated it online with ID and no issues there. Before activation, I chose that I wanted to go for the 12 month $150 prepaid plan and I paid with no issues. It got deducted from my paypal account.

My number has activated but I'm still unable to make calls or use 4g etc.

I was wondering if have any input? I went to speak to the live chat and they said it can take 24-48hrs after payment, just seems a little long?

Thanks

  • Recharging should be instant. Maybe support got confused with activating/porting for 24-48 hours?

My concern is you recharged before activating the number and that may affect it.

Just quickly check if your data and sim card icon is turned on, or even turn it off & on.

  • what model phone do you have?

  • Got a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S.

Sim card icon is on and is fine. I think I can receive texts/calls no problem.

  • Just checked my paypal and it says "pending" - does that mean Telstra has got to process it or something?

  • i just activated a boost sim card 20 min ago. ported a number, got a text saying wait 24 hours. i never got an option to choose a plan through out the whole thing. i just thought i had to wait untill the number clears…

  • Try to Update your APN settings?

    • Checked my paypal and it still says "Pending Authorisation" from Telstra/Boost. Seems like they need to approve it on their end. I contacted them on live chat and they said they're working trhough activating many people's plans atm so it might be another 24hrs or so… :/

      • Have you updated your APN serting

        • Yes that isn't the issue. I called up telstra/boost today and they said it was a glitch in their system. I got to get the bank to cancel the pending payment and redo it.

  • I'm going through pretty much exactly the same thing at the moment. Activated the sim on Sunday and recharged, by Tuesday I still couldn't make calls and had messages coming up saying that my sim was not active yet, but I could receive SMS. 4 calls/online chats over 3 days and kept being told 'this should be fixed within 24 hours'. It is now Friday, 5 days after I first activated the sim and still cannot make calls. My recharge is 'pending' according to the bank.

kakarot123, did you end up getting this sorted? I'm about to pull the pin on Boost and go with someone else.

    • +1

      Hey Kiwi,

So it dragged on for over a week. A lot of back and forth - Boost Live Chat told me to call their number so I did, they told me to go back to Live Chat and then I tried calling again after being told to by the Live Chat. I was contemplating going back to Kogan.

They said there was some glitch in the system and they told me the $150 money would bounce back and be refunded as they couldn't process the order (which it did).

They gave me a month worth of credit (for the inconvenience of not having a number to call/send texts for over a week). I recently recharged with my credit card (not paypal this time) and it was instantly credited.

I feel like a lot of the experience was shaped by the Live Chat… I was told different things by different online chat representatives. This really made the experience more annoying.

I hope you get it sorted out soon.

      • Wow, that pretty much mirrors exactly what happened to me. Live chat kept telling me it was being escalated and wait for another 24 hours (was told 'it will only be another 24 hours' four different times), some were saying the sim was active, some were saying it wasn't. I called them instead just after I posted the above comment (expecting a long wait time, hence why I was using live chat) and got through straight away. The rep said he wasn't sure what was happening but it was unusual and if I wasn't too attached to that number just go and get another sim card. I went and got one and they activated it for me over the phone in a few minutes, its working perfectly now.

They also said to call my bank to reverse the recharge on that first account, but the bank said they couldn't as Boost had to refund it. Its still coming up at 'pending ' so I'll just give it a week and see what happens.

        • Yeah exactly, it was really frustrating to me.
I went to the bank several times and they told me both times that they couldn't do anything about it as I paid through paypal. When I contacted paypal, they told me that they couldn't do anything about it and that Boost had to authorise the payment or reverse the payment.

Regarding the reversal of payment, once the order processing fails, you'll get a refund within 3-5 business days, otherwise it will be 28 days or so since date of payment (since that's the time they give to authorise a pending payment).
