  • never mind…

  • Just wondering if there's any way to earn points without using Bing/Edge?

    • Complete the daily tasks…. purchase games digitally…. that's what I do :)

      I just stick to Chrome.

      • You mean the daily tasks that 'reward' you with 1c?

Well given I purchase a lot of games digitally, it all adds up.

pisses me off that they removed the 12 month passes from the rewards store, they were way better value

My rough calculations, based on previous hot deals (subject to change), and using the $5/$10 Xbox credit as the base:

    1. Xbox Live Gold (12 months) - 24,000 on hot deal = $30 at 800pts/$ (cf. $40-$60 deals)
    2. Xbox/MS credit ($5/$10) - 4,000/8,000 on hot deal = $5/$10 at 800pts/$
    3. Xbox Game Pass (3 months) - 13,500 on hot deal = $16.88 at 800pts/$ (cf. $15-$17 deals)

Or put another way, based on usual deals that get posted:

    1. Xbox Live Gold (12 months) - 24,000 for $40-$60 value = 400-600pts/$
    2. Xbox/MS credit ($5/$10) - 4,000/8,000 on hot deal for $5/$10 value = 800pts/$
    3. Xbox Game Pass (3 months) - 13,500 on hot deal for $15-$17 value = 794-900pts/$

So my thinking is that the best strategy would be to spend your points on maxing out 3 years of Live Gold first (best use of points), and then use any remaining points on Xbox credit or Game Pass (roughly similar value, so just whichever you want/need). (Assuming you actually want Live Gold/Game Pass - obviously the analysis would depend on what you actually want to use.)

Note: This ignores frequents deals on $1 Live Gold / Game Pass. You might be able to find a more optimal strategy based on taking advantage of those, if you don't need continuing subscription to Live Gold / Game Pass.

  • So how long does it take to earn 13500 points?

    • Assuming you just do the daily tasks, about 23 years.

You can earn about 200-300pts a day, so you could probably earn it in about 1.5 to 2 months.

FWIW, it says I have earned 4318pts this month, which works out to about 206 per day on average. I usually spend a minute or two at work in the morning doing it, so I often miss days on the weekend.

That's just from the online rewards stuff - if you buy stuff from the Xbox/Microsoft store, then you can earn it faster.

      • I can't speak for everyone else, but I only get offered about 5 points per day (that's less than 1c) to click on something that is literally just a link to a Bing search. it would take about 7.4 years at this rate to get 13,500 points.

Are you using the website, or just the rewards app on xbox?

Yeah, on the Xbox, I generally get a bunch of 5pt links. This could be anywhere from 0 to 10 links a day, it seems. Sometimes nothing! I don't really bother with that, I only check it every now and then when I can be bothered.

But on the website, there are usually 3-6 links per day to searches, polls or quizzes, which provide 10-30pts each. Then there is 90pts per day for bing searches on PC (or Ipad also works) and 72pts per day for bing searches on mobile (60pts + a bonus 12pts using Microsoft Edge).

So that works our to be 212-232pts per day just through the website as a base - you also get streak bonuses every X days, if you do it each day (I often miss these, since I usually do it at work, and miss days on the weekend).

You definitely should be able to get more than 5pts a day! (Although whether you feel that 200-300pts per day is enough to make it worth your while…that's up to you to decide too!) :)

FWIW, I have earned about 65,000 points over the last 11 months or so, plus an extra 10,000 points my fiance has accumulated since the start of the year. I used 8,000 points on a $10 Xbox gift card, but I still have almost enough for 3 years of Xbox Live next time the hot deal on 12 month memberships comes around! :)
