Motherboard Recommendation for New Intel Desktop Build

My motherboard is giving up the ghost. I believe the onboard 8 phase power thingy is failing phase by phase. So far I had to take out one by one all SATAs (but the OS SSD) and one then the second of 4 memory banks. I would say is a goner.
Any suggestions of a good motherboard for my next build (Intel proc)? I do play games every now and then but not much. I will rely on the built in graphics for the moment.
I like to have extra SATAs
Thanks

What is your current cpu and mb?

    • The system is about 6 years old, I7 3770K, DDR3
I am not planning in using anything from it.

I will build a new system around this new motherboard

  • Budget?

    • Around $250 for the MoBo
Will plug in an I7 current version and some 16G DDR4

    y no AMD?

      I like Intel architecture.

        lmao what..

        • +1

some people like Ford, other people like Holden.
My minimum requirements are clear :)

@cristtos: Yea you could've just said you like Intel over AMD (not sure why but ok, maybe you're unaware of Intel's history), but you said you like "architecture" which is just funny.

            • +1

              @NikeGS: I meant including chipsets.

              • -2

@cristtos: What about the chipsets? AMD has pretty much the same equivalent chipsets to Intel except they provide overclocking support on budget chipsets (B350, B450) and CPUs while Intel only allows it on the most expensive parts.

                • +2

@NikeGS: OK, I like like Intel over AMD, if that is how you expect to be said :)

@cristtos: Next time just say you want max fps for gaming

                    • @dcep: Some people just have a preference. Like Holden vs. Ford.

                    • +1

@dcep: Next time just read his requirements and don't judge.

  • evga - amazon.au special due soon via us

    • Z390 or X299?

      • Z390 it is, X299 is a too high end platform.

  • here is the problem with an intel build, Intel since Pentium 4, has allowed a maximum of 2 gens on a motherboard, Eg. 1156 was first gen core i only, 1155 was 2nd + 3rd etc. 4th - 5th was another two (5th gen broadwell was mostly skipped (OEM only), 6th and 7th, 8th and 9th

    To summarise
    Gen 1
    Gen 2-3
    Gen 4-5
    Gen 6-7
Gen 8-9 (same socket as 6-7 but intel said no!!, some Chinese brands have them working in older motherboards / chipsets

in same period since 2005 you can technically go

    AMD AM2+ —> AMD AM3 —> AMD AM4 with AM2+ boards working with Phenom AM3 processors

AM4 has been Zen 1 Zen 1.5 now Zen 2
Also Ryzen 3000, Zen 2 is coming out and is so far looking to beat intel in IPC and all benchmarks

Finally Intel has not innovated at all, AMD innovated with Zen, to reward AMDs innovation you buy Intel?

    • Ryzen 3000, Zen 2 is coming out and is so far looking to beat intel in IPC and all benchmarks

No, it won't. Just closing the gap in IPC.
Sunnycove will widens the gap once again.

Intel has not innovated at all,

They innovated Core architecture well over 10yrs ago, that AMD failed to compete up until Ryzen launched. Blame AMD for being uncompetitive and Intel for being complacent.

      AMD innovated with Zen

Yeah, took them 10yrs to come back up.
Still remember all those crappy AMD CPUs from 2007-2016 ?
      10 effing years.

to reward AMDs innovation you buy Intel?

I buy whichever is cheaper/performs better regardless of brand.
The perception of AMD = Much Cheaper, ain't right.

      • 'From about 2001 to 2007, they concluded, Intel (intc, -0.44%) had engaged in a wide range of abusive practices to preserve its 80% to 85% market share during a period when AMD’s product offerings — especially its Opteron chip for enterprise servers — were widely seen as technically superior to Intel’s. Intel was paying computer makers to abjure AMD chips entirely or to constrict their usage to tiny, backwater portions of their business, the regulators found. Intel allegedly made such payments to Dell (dell, +0.46%), IBM (ibm, +0.59%), Hewlett-Packard (hpq, +0.10%), Lenovo, Acer, NEC, Toshiba, Sony (sne, -0.35%), Hitachi, Fujitsu, Samsung, Sambo Computer, and Europe’s largest computer retailing chain, Media Markt. (Wounded in the collateral damage, computer maker Dell eventually also had to cough up $100 million to settle charges brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which alleged that Dell misled its shareholders by failing to tell them that the only reason Dell was able to meet its quarterly numbers for 20 consecutive quarters was the $6 billion in funds Intel was paying it to not use AMD chips.)'

        yank business at its finest

        • Takes two to tango.

Should boycott Samsung, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Sony, etc. as well.

          But i won't.

It's the company that restricts innovation, disgusts me the most.

Especially someone claiming for the shape of device, design of rectangular shape with rounded edge, or even the 'feel' of user experience.

          • @dcep: Mate its intel that reamed customers worldwide and effectively got away with it. Then they just went and poached amd execs to screw them over some more.

anti competitive us of a reaming the world and you just love it….

    • I understand where you are coming from.
However I hoped for some experience sharing (of current Intel based motherboards) rather than a Intel vs AMD argument.
      Thanks anyway

      • go with MSI board, cheap with big heatsinks and good vrms

Last year, I bought an ASUS Prime Z370-A mobo, i7-8700K and Corsair 16GB DDR4 - and my system just 'flies'.

Would certainly recommend the above components

        • Thanks

          • @cristtos: Same, just put together an ASUS Z370 TUF Gaming Plus WiFi, i5-9400f and Corsair 32GB.

            Would recommend!

            • @ti m: So Z370 is Z390 minus USB3.1 and wi-fi onboard support?

              • @cristtos: you get a duff asus board you screwed unless you bought it local - ie within travel distance.

asus support in aus is non-existent for motherboards virtually

              • @cristtos: Sorry, my board is a z390, it has USB3 Gen 2 and Wifi
