Plastic Primer - Models Cheap Paint

Hi not sure if gaming was the correct section?

Im hunting for some cheap plastic primer so i can paint some plastic figures (army men ect) for my nephew.

Went to supercheap hoping to buy some cheap stuff (i bought export clear for $2.09 a can) but the store guy said the primer would break off the model…

He said the only product they had to do the job was a $20 spray can so i was like lol no thanks mate.

Can i use the export primer? Or is there another sub $5 brand that will work. Not goin pro painting just wanted to give him something cool…

those aussie export paints from supacheap are real crap for what you want to do.

try some of this brand https://www.tamiya.com/english/e-home.htm

I've used Dulux Duplicolor to paint a styrene Tamiya model without issue.

Try some of the cheap stuff on a sprue offcut if unsure.

  • Export is atrocious quality. You'd want something much better for models.

    • Lol it worked ok on my gym bench i bought for $10, now its yellow. I figured cheap clear would be fine? Am i wrong?

Try white knight squirts from bunnings.

I've used flat white and black before and they are OK.

    • Was hoping to be under $5 a can but im assuming a can goes a long way???

      • Yeah I think so, I've used a can on at least a whole army of plastic Games Workshop miniatures, somewhere between 50-100 models.
