congratulations on surviving all these decades in your nuclear bunker, we welcome you to our civilization with open arms

    • Is this fallout 10%: the gerried edition?

I don't want to alarm you, but Donald Trump is president of the USA…

    I know right!

    Hi (Gerry)!

He's first to complain when anything competes with his business. Particularly in relation to grey/parallel imports and GST.

I think he should have focused on creating a point of differentiation (customer service/focus on products that cant be imported), rather than just complaining to get the competition shut down.

I now pay even more for products that he doesn't sell.

    Also 'wats' isnt a word.

Go to Harvey Norman and compare computer parts to somewhere like MSY. The prices he charges are outrageously expensive and he has the guts to complain that GST free imports are damaging his business.

  • google Gerry, prolly come up with thousands of articles of him complaining

Harvey Norman had a camera sale with big boards out the front. A few older models pictured. I went in and asked the prices of the items on sale and they said they wouldn't tell me the prices or even which cameras were on sale. I asked about the pictured Nikon 6200 as the sale was meant to be on old model runout and the guy said that it wasn't on sale. I said that's a bit funny because the 6300, 6400, 6500 and 6600 had all been released after it. He said the 6600 didn't even exist. Right.

Anyway, Harvey Norman are hustlers and take advantage of unsuspecting consumers. My dad went there to buy a small Bose stereo and came back with an internet radio even though he didn't have internet and he didn't know the product wasn't Bose. I asked why he bought it and he said he liked Bose. The item was a Sonos component with no speakers and useless for him and he was upsold junk. They will give different prices and upsell garbage. After all that, Gerry Harvey will go on all the current affairs shows whinging about other companies. If you are an ozbargainer they are occasionally useful online, but Gerry doesn't even like OzBargain or buyers like us.

Its not that gerry is against ozbargain or buyers like us, gerry is against informed consumers, how else would he be able to stay in business.

All the others above mentioned would be the tip of the iceberg.

HDMI cable scam Gerryatric was the ringleader.

That's why he's known as the biggest askhole in the business

    TLDR of my last experience at HN;

Click and collect order because I saw a deal on here for $24 Logitech speakers.

Pay and receive the email that it's ready to collect. No dramas.

Go into store and there is 2 ladies standing at different desks when I go in. I go up to the counter with the big 'Click & Collect' logo. Waiting there for a few minutes and one of the ladies yells out that I should go and find someone. I ask if there is actually any free staff as the few I could see were busy with customers. Her comment was 'they must be all hiding' laughs and walks off.

I left and had them cancel my order. Received my refund and went and got the same speakers for the same price at Officeworks.

  • There was a caller on ABC Melbs this morning on the topic of franchises. The caller's friend is a HN franchisee on the Gold Coast and was charged "several thousand dollars" for Gerry to make an appearance at the store while Gerry was in town for the Magic Millions thingy he co-owns. Seems like the sort of thing that Gerry would do.

So I go into the store and the sales person gives me a price for a Dyson. Ill check in the back to make sure we have it in stock. I said that's fine. Before that she already asks if I want additional warranty cover. I say no. Comes back says there are in stock and starts to process order. Oh. No that's now XXX more. WTF. You just told me it this price. Then she starts to up sell me the new model at $200 more than her original price I started with. She spoke to the manager. Must have just changed. OMG.

    Walked out. Hardly Normal

  • returned my blender there today (in warranty claim), get $99 'store credit' - all good as i have researched new blender to buy then and there. guy says that specific blender you just asked to buy, i've never sold, bla bla bla, this blender (not the one i asked for) is great, does this and this etc. I say no, i wan't this one that i asked for & can you price match DJ's. Guy makes a phone call, walks out the back, prints something out, writes his work number on the HN business card, talks more about the blender he wants to sell. I'm like, look can I buy this at this price and use the store credit? He brings up google via the 56K modem on his late 90's modle PC and types in the blender I want, clicks on HN website and is like "mmm.. its at RRP here". Yeah no sh!t bro, price match or what? He was like "i'll make some calls and see what i can do" - i left
i can't use the store credit online, and he wasted too much of my time for me to go back.
wierdest non sale ever, i was buying the new blender today, as the old one died

  • Monster cables.
Hardly Normal had 2 identical FHD TV's on display with huge signs showing the superiority in Monster cables, the differences in picture quality was shocking, Hardly Normal just left one thing out, one TV was connected via Monster HDMI cable and the other a composite cable.
The signs were misleading people to believe that one TV was connected with a Monster HDMI cable and the other with a generic HDMI cable, infact the other TV was connected via a composite cable.
I so much wanted to switch the "Monster HDMI cable" sign with the "non Monster HDMI cable" sign, but my parents wouldn't let me :(.

There are only 2 types of HDMI cables standard speed and high speed. If you're seeing a picture and hearing sound they you're getting it 1 on 1, there is no such thing as picture and sound quality being degraded over poor HDMI cables, or non Monster cables.
Every Hardly Normal salesman would push these Monster HDMI cables at you, "you need Monster HDMI cables to get the true HD experience" "why would you buy a HD TV and not enjoy it's full capabilities by using non Monster HDMI cables, the you'll receive a poor picture and sound quality" etc. etc. etc.

Anyone remember the Footy Finals sale? where Hardly Normal mislead people to believe via its cataloge that anyone anywhere in Australia could watch the special broadcast on the footy in 3D, the 3D broadcast was actually limited to specific regions of Australia.
