CO (Carbon Monoxide) Detector - Any reliable brands ?

I am trying to find a CO detector but all ebay searches either show items from Hongkong / China or its fairly expensive. With VIC trying to mandate CO detectors to be installed in houses that have gas heaters, I thought these would be easily available and much cheaper.

The cheapest I could find is http://www.dinodirect.com/gas-detector-carbon-monoxide-hm-71…

Moreover I am looking for a detector where I can measure ppm rather than a alarm or sticker that changes colors. Anyone who has an idea or a detector, please shed some light ! Thanks :)

  • My suggestion would be to ring the agency responsible for ensuring building standards in Victoria and/or your state-wide fire department.

They should be able to tell you which brands are good or direct you where to buy one from

  • How much cheaper did you expect it to be?
$32 is pretty bloody good in my eyes!

    • It is cheaper, but then there are no specifications of any sort listed in the website.
Also, after looking at dinodirect history in ozbargain, I now dont find them reliable.

      • I now dont find them reliable.

Fair enough.. I agree that the site looks pretty dodgy!

  • +1

Surely the WHOLE idea of installing something like this is safety. And hence the purchasing decision should be based on standards compliance and reliability rather than price?

BTW - why is Victoria so "CO-centric"? The don't allow unvented gas heaters, so there's FAR less chance of CO escaping compared to all the other states where portable (unflued) heaters are allowed. Seems odd to a Sydney-sider.

That said - here's one at DX for US$17.50…
