[AMA] I Am a Car Salesman, Ask Me Anything!

To celebrate my 22,000th comment which will happen on this post, I figured it's about time I do something like this, especially after trying to dispel the hybrid myths on this post

Currently working Toyota new cars, have worked for Holden & Suzuki previously, as well as used car sales.

Former top 10 deal poster, current top 10 commenter and competition poster (Stats here)

Aaaaand go!

(FWIW I won't neg vote anyone on here, I know the discussion can get passionate at times but that does nothing to further the conversation. I use my words not my neg votes!)

        • Didn't say it was a great investment. Only that it was available for sale :)

  • My daughter is trying to get a deal on a Mitsubishi ASX black edition. https://www.mitsubishi-motors.com.au/shopping-tools/special-…
dealership wont budge on the $26990 price, and because they cant deliver this month won't include any of the offers, but still want her to sign a contract this month. She has preapproved finance, not using the car yard.
Can see no benefit in doing so, are we missing something, should we be able to get a better deal?

    • I don't work for Mitsubishi so not sure, but someone posted similar issues with an Outlander. Might be very low margin in those and you'll just have to cop it at that price.

Treat it like you're buying a Tesla and having to pay list price 😉

  • yeah, fair enough, bit more to the story the above was the short version,,

the guy got $500 out of my daughter, saying she had to pay it before he would do up any paperwork.. he did the paperwork (very thin on details no vin etc) emailed it through, said she had to sign, and when she questioned that there was nothing in it about the extras he phoned and told her he cant do it, as they cant deliver the car this month, she said forget it, wont be going through with it, emailed her request to get her deposit back, and then received a call from the finance person at the car yard wanting to discuss her finance options. She has her own finance arranged, wtf?

Is this some kind of bully tactic or the way things are done these days?
She wont be buying the car but is now worried she may not get the deposit back.

    • Certainly not how things are done

      • it dragged on over the weekend, daughter complained about salesmans tactics to the manager, and they asked what they could do to make the sale, she told them if they would honour the deal, (so all the "as advertised extras") she would be happy, and they agreed to that. Then when she got the paperwork it was dated 30/03/19 and was highlighted where she had to sign to say she had taken delivery of the car. she again questioned them and they said they would not do the deal unless she signed it to say she had already received the car. WTF is it with this crap, surely that can't be legal? If something went wrong with supply of the car she doesnt have a leg to stand on?

**** ha after all the above, the "march mean more deal" is now the "mitsubishi means more deal" for april, have to purchase between 01/04/19 and 30/04/19 ****

  • Hey,

So I purchased a new car a few weeks ago and paid the $1000 deposit.

I went to apply for finance and it turned out that I'd been a victim of ID fraud with loans and defaults on my name for the past 3 months.

The dealership want me to pay but it might take some time to sort through the fraud. I have police reports and the lot.

Would the dealer be happy to wait another month (In your opinion) or give me a refund?

    • Have you asked them? What did they say?

    • Ask them

  • When will Toyota get AA/Carplay?

  • Given what you know about Toyota, build quality, etc. - would you pay a premium for Lexus?

    • Would love to know too. More specifically , what are your thoughts on the RX 300? The only reason I've been pushing off booking a test drive is that infotainment :( It's such a let down for an SUV at that price point.

    • +1

If I had the cash, sure, but for the price premium I'd then see what euro cars I could buy for the same money (and get out of them just before warranty expires!)

  • What's a good price for a current gen ZR hybrid corolla? Are they ever discounted?

    • +1

Barely. Struggle to get 1 too, you'd probably need to order and wait for it. Tops you might get $1500-1800 off if you're lucky

  • How do you even sell a Corolla in 2019 ??

      • didnt think they were selling that well. Camry yes, corolla no.
