Subwoofer for PC

I'm looking for a small subwoofer for my PC. I currently using 2.0 speakers which are nice, but lack in the low end. My sound header supports a separate sub output too.

Ideally I'd like something to sit behind the monitor, something not too big. I don't really want anything larger to sit on the floor.

Any ideas? Do any soundbars have decent bass? I'm happy to get technical if I need to mod things…

Eww, sub bass should be on the floor. If it's on the desk it'll just reverb through everything on the desk before getting to you - keyboard, mouse, monitor.

    • Thanks for the thinking point. Guess it would vibrate a bit.

  • What Spackbace has said is spot on. If you have a sub on the desk it will be terrible.

It honestly depends on your budget. I've had the Razer Leviathan soundbar and sub combo for a few years which was around $280 from memory and has held that price. Awesome sound though.

If you're looking for something cheaper look at Logitech combos. They have ones to suit every budget from $30 upwards.

  • I am rocking a Logitech Z4 which I picked up for $30.

Not the best sub in the world but it packs a punch for value.

Check gumtree loads of people selling speakers of all sorts.. if you need something more professional though or enthusiast gear I don't know.. I use headset most of the time.

Speakers are just there as an option.

  • Logitech Z623 Speaker System $97 @ Harvey Norman ($92.15 w/ Officeworks Pricematch)

get this and you won't regret mate.

    • That sub is huge! I really don't want anything that big sorry :).

The sound out of my little bluetooth Wonderboom speaker is kind of what I'm looking for. It has good bass, and a great overall sound. I can't really turn the volume up a big amount. Maybe some decent 2.0 speakers will do the job.

      • Well it does have bass knob so you can control how loud the bass is

        • It's more the physical size. My desk is not overly deep. My feet tend to be on the brick wall behind, which is where such a sub would go.

  • The z623's are nice and I use em. Currently there is a deal at Harvey Norman like the poster above said

  • I've been reading around for other more professional 2.0 options. There's a few more compact options with better sound characteristics being talked about on reddit and such. A couple of the smaller examples were the Yamaha NX-50, and the Bose Companion 2 series III speakers. There's many reviews on Amazon of each. Other Edifier speakers look good too, but are just a little too big. And I really don't want a set with another box on the floor.

Looking for the best of both worlds, and after all the reading, I've settled on the mentioned Bose speakers, finding them for $150 including shipping.

  • logitech z213 2.1 speakers are available from target & bigW for $39 & $38 respectively. reasonable reviews. not overly big

    • I did see those online, and the woofer did seem smaller. Placement was still maybe an issue? I suspect Spackbace is right about placing it behind the monitor.

Fingers crossed the Bose 2.0 ones have good low end, without a huge amount of low low rumble that you get from woofers. People seem to say they do.
