Samsung Galaxy S8 Stuck after Update - Help

My son decided to update his phone and the phone is now stuck.

I'm clueless about android phones. Hoping someone can help me out. This happened once before and when we took it into the samsung store….they wouldn't help him because they said it wasn't aussie stock. I really don't know what else to do…

I'm hoping someone can help. I took some pics of the phone and the messages on it.

      Teenagers eh?

    • He swears he didn't….he has his life on the phone….all his pics…friends contacts….precious birthday messages. Photos of his grandmother who recently passed away. I hope he has learnt his lesson now to back up his phone before he taps on update.

      • There's nothing wrong with "rooting" a phone. It enables more access which leads to being able to use better unofficial apps and various tweaks to the whole system.
Those photos, are they not stored on a Micro SD card?
There's also a way to have them store automatically to the cloud if you want. But personally I prefer to store them on an SD card so they don't hog up the storage plus they won't get erased if someone bad happens.
And contacts can be saved to the SIM card.
Things like messages, yes should be backed up.

  • Have you tried switching it off and after a couple of minutes switching it back on again?

    • Can't even power it off. At first it was the spinning lock until the battery died. Now it will be stuck on the samsung logo until the battery dies.

Download stock firmware files for your carrier, or use XSA if it's unbranded https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?q=SM-G950F&…
Flash it using Odin, which is Samsung's internal firmware tool that got into the hands of the public
    Here's a good guide https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/use-odin-flash-samsun…
Also a good guide but a little outdated and no longer links to the latest Odin version https://updato.com/how-to/how-to-install-an-official-samsung…
This won't void warranty, and will restore the phone to stock
HOME_CSC keeps your data, CSC wipes it

    • This won't void warranty

No need to worry about that, it's US stock…

      • Recovery says G950F so while it isn't Aus, it also isn't US as the G950F is the international model

    • Thank you so much for that. Will read up and tackle that tonight.

  • Just out of interest - if this has happened before, how did you get it up and running again that time?

    • that time, a factory reset did the trick…this was many many months ago.

    Its not stuck.
Seems like your sons deleted the firmware. Just dl and load another one on.

On computer terms is like hes deleted the operating system, its now on bios screen waiting for you to install ;)

    • aaaaahhhhh ok….that I understand. Will have to find some youtube videos to watch and see how it's done

  • beaniecrazed, you can PM me if you're stuck. I have an S8 and have gone through some of those processes such as downloaded and installing the OS. It isn't too complicated but it depends on your familiarity with tech.

    • There is so much reading and digesting of all the information.

G950FXXU4DSBA is the model number? I think from memory…Samsung store said it's a UK model.

So would I be looking for firmware for that model number or looking for firmware for Australia?

I am also using a mac…so it won't be odin? it will be Jodin or something like that? I won't have time till tomorrow afternoon to work on this. Some step by step information would be really appreciated. So afraid of messing up! LOL

  • At this stage you'll have to re-flash the updated firmware via Odin. Make sure you download the correct region firmware though. "G950FXXU4DSBA" suggests it's an European import.
