Washing Machine Repair

We have a Simpson upright washing machine which is six years old. It stops mid-way through the cycle and turns off. My husband has done a major reset but it's still happening. Reading online I'm thinking it may be the circuit board. My question is…..how much is it likely cost to replace the circuit board? My thoughts are to replace but hubby is not so sure. If there's anyone with a similar problem or experience I'd be happy for your comments. Thanks to everyone with their advice about my Mum's broken fridge posted about a week ago. We ended up replacing it and she's very happy now.

  • Drain hose might be blocked - which the machine detects and halts. Clean everything and see.

To be honest repairs are costly and repeat callout fees add up. Plenty of second hand washing machines around on FBM or Gumtree.

OMG - Bit rough replacing hubby because he hasn't fixed the washing machine.

    Blocked drain pump?

  • Hubby has checked the hose isn't blocked. I'm wondering if it was a blockage would that actually turn the machine off?

  • when you say "halfway", is this after the wash part of the cycle?

  • Check the manual. Mine stopped working and I tracked the problem down to the motor through the fault code. Checked the motor and found nothing wrong, put it back together and it has worked since.

  • There is no error code. Most times it turns off so there isn't any error code showing. We have tried it a few times and it stops at different times. We even go it to pump the water out by restarting. Sometimes it completely turns off other times it goes back to the beginning of the regular wash cycle regardless of which cycle you set it on but at no point does it show the error code. Thanks everyone for your patience in trying to help me.

probably worth a google to see if it's sold online.

Double call out fee will kill the viability

  • A washimg machine lasting 6 years is a pretty good run, its not worth repairing, time to buy something else with the money you save from repairing a machine that will probably break down again in the near term.

    • Yeah, I have to agree with what garetz says. Some machines will last a lot longer than 6 years but you have had a good run. A newer machine will have later tech and probably do the job better. A washing machine is an essential. Can you afford downtime on it. Get a new one.

We got a new machine about 12 months back and it can spin so fast (1400 rpm) that there is almost no moisture left in the clothes. Big plus. The clothes dry very quickly after that.

6 years is a short working life. Ours work machine is 8 to 9 years while the other is >12 years. The work one is doing >6 washing per week over the last 4 yours. Sometimes 3 or 4 in one day.

Try and find the invoice and contact the retailer for a remedy.

  • We have ordered a new machine. We decided investing hundreds of dollars to have it fixed wasn't worth the gamble of something else going wrong. We've never been happy with the lint on our clothes with this machine so chose a different brand.
